DIY bread machine / heat gun coffee bean roaster pretty well finished up. May have to make a couple tweeks after the first roast. Here's a couple pics. Picked up the bread machine at goodwill for $8.00. Disassembled it then re-wired the motor to a simple on/off toggle switch that you can see I mounted on the old control board.
Next is the bean cooler for after they're done roasting. Beans go in wire mesh covered colander on the top and shop vacuum hose goes in the bottom. Turn on the shop vacuum and it pulls cool air through the beans to cool them.
Roasting will be done outdoors and I have a good fire extinguisher on hand. Anyone who wants to see how one works just google it. There are plenty of videos on the net.

I'll definitely post some pics. Probably a good idea I start with the least expensive beans I can find, lol. Trying to decide if I want to make the height adjustment easier to control temp to ramp it down after the initial heat up or spend the $20 and buy a router controller to adjust the heat gun.

Ok guys and gals attempt #1. Started with about half a cup of green beans. Results actually look pretty good. Smell really good. Not sure yet how it actually tastes but we'll see tomorrow or the following day. I must say I'm kind of suprised. Think I may need to move the gun back some. First crack was around 4min30sec. Second crack around 6min30sec. Pulled it about 10 sec in to second crack. Think I want to slow it down to around 8-10min. Looking at some pics in comparison looks like Full City + Roast.

This is just one of those cheap harbor freight $20 jobs. I didnt want to burn up an expensive one doing this. Plus its 3 year no question asked exchange. It has high and low settings only. High is like 1000 and low is around 500 degrees. I did these on high the whole time. I could possibly switch down to low some time during the roast. I was thinking about buying a router control and using that to adjust the temp. I got to thinking that it also could have been the roast size. I only did 1/2 cup of beans for the trial which is kind of small. Larger roast may slow that time down. I've got a couple things to work out. If your into coffee its pretty interesting.

Bingo. That's something I learned early on as well. When I set up to do a roast, I don't do less than 1 cup of green beans, and this puts the roast time right around 8-9 mins for me.
I usually buy the big bag of 8AM coffee beans and grind them up. Then I use the grounds to make expresso and flavor with different types of Coffee Mate cream. They have some awesome flavors these days back in the milk section.
You're not lyin! International Delight makes a flavor called Cinnabon. It's like a liquid cinnamon roll. Friggin incredible! Just a touch with a good espresso beats ANYTHING I've ever had from a barista.

Andrew, one of my local friend owns a coffee plantation and processing plant in Jinotega. This is a famous coffee growing region in the entire Central America. Naturally, coffee from this region do not develop the pronounced and sharp acidity like other Central American coffee. I visited his firm and he also produces organic coffee. Actually I never buy coffee. I will visit his firm most probably next month. Do you want me to get some for you? What is your coffee taste buds?

And if you don't mind, I'll throw in my $0.02 for a grinder - Bodum Electric Burr Grinder. Unless you got lots of cash to blow, I highly recommend this one. It's about $100, we've had it for about a year now and love it.
