I've been considering one. Sounds like it's worth it. Although I will use a torch, I've mostly stuck to the standard Bic for pipe smoking, and that's not wind resistant either. And, of course, the scorched thumb factor. Thanks for the opinions.

Balkan Supreme in my MM Eaton Cob paired with gorp and water. I emptied all my jars of this blend but one into a mylar bag for more convenient storage and this was the scraps that clung to the bottom of the jars.

Inspired by Yak's cob, dug out my MM Missouri Pride straight stem pipe and some new-to-me Watch City Rouxgaroux from @Stubble. Thanks, Steve.
"NOTE: Rouxgaroux is releases two times per year- April 1st and October 31st.
The Rouxgaroux! The Cajun Werewolf. It prowls the sugar cane fields outside New Orleans looking for it's next victim.
Watch City's "Rouxgaroux" is based upon a bed of our "Simply Red" and a Matured Red Virginia. Rouxgaroux is an indulgent melange of flavors of stewed fig and plum. spiced with a generous amount of Perique along with some stoved Virginia and a bit of Bright Virginia for a unique floral note that drifts in and out through the bowl."
Trying out an old tin of Exclusiv Royal (# 1) granulated mild English blend. The tobacco gave off a sweet wine or grape note from the jar after opening the tin earlier today to make the clock. I noticed sparkling crystals in the tobacco. It’s very mild, I don’t detect any of the Latakia left but do get hints of that sweetness.

2010 Hearth & Home Distinguished Penguin in an even older Carey Magic Inch pipe this morning with some great medium roasted coffee from Colombia.
From Tobaccoreviews: "This is a light/dark mixture (technically, it's considered a Scottish blend) of Carolina and Virginia flake-cut, with Stoved Virginia, a light amount of Latakia, and a bit of unflavored toasted Black Cavendish. A mild and slightly sweet smoke with character."
No hint of Latikia left, a bit on the dry side so it's trying to bite, but it's a good enough morning smoke.

Yes it is. I love it, as long as it's not too windy out.
me, too. I've had mine for 10 years, but yeah not windproof.
