Your roast looks more even than mine.... Did you notice a funky odor during the first part of the roast? Smelled like the beans might have spent some time in anaerobic conditions.
I used the trier to look at and smell the beans during the roast but I didn't get much until right around the time that I dropped the beans, not much aroma from the roasting coffee.

That's promising. I packed up some Liberica and Ethiopia coffee to take with me to my mom's house. She reminded me that she still had some of my coffee from the last time I visited, that was before New Years so I think I'll take something fresher.

Yeah, my mom asked for a single cup brewer after my dad passed because she wasn't drinking up the pots fast enough, this Cuisinart doesn't do a bad job with paper filters and fresh coffee.
When we got here, one of the first things I did was brew a cup of the Liberica, but first I had to find where she stashed the grinder.
The coffee already shows a few beans with oil sheen on the surface so I must have entered second crack. I enjoyed it, it had some creamy leather, dry cocoa powder, and cherry notes and I think when I brew it in my travel French press it'll be even better.
The family all enjoyed it too.

I'm finding with a travel press brew the other day of the Philippines Liberica Batangas after three days and a Tetsu Kasuya hybrid pour-over / immersion of the coffee today with five days rest using the December Dripper that the flavors have moved on from cocoa and cherry and are starting to resonate with some of the descriptions of jackfruit that I've heard. Roast notes are coming out now and there's a sweet, meaty pork like note to the coffee along with a creamy leather note. I'm thinking about how I'm going to approach my next roast since this roast got away from me and into second crack before I really knew it.

Roast # 160+ in the Bullet Mar 12, 2023: Philippines Batangas Liberica. I dropped my pre-heat temp by 15 degrees C from my standard 275 C to 260 C for this coffee after my first roast which got away from me and well into second crack. I stayed with the 600 gram batch size. The first batch was roasty and had an interesting sweet port flavor, but the roast notes and the pork notes weren't captivating. This roast was much more controlled and has a nice sweetness without strong meaty notes but it does have a good amount of leather and earthy notes with it too. I think I took this to a City+ / Full City roast and I am enjoying it. Changing things up to roast a different coffee species which required some roast modifications has been fun. Not the same old thing. I notice a lot of quakers in this batch, tan beans that don't color and usually taste like peanut butter because the seed was immature and didn't develop enough sugars to caramelize. Also there were about the same number of green coffee defects to cull before roasting.
Reports from other roasters on Liberica from other origins are similar in flavor descriptions, fruit and salami for a Liberica from India about a decade ago and barnyard and bubblegum from much larger Malaysian Liberica beans roasted recently from another home-roaster.
Roast # 161 Mar 12, 2023: El Salvador Geisha Natural. Mena Family, Villa Espana. I picked this up with the Liberica coffee from New Orleans Coffee Import because of the good price for a Geisha. This was my first roast of this coffee and I went back to my standard 275 C pre-heat temp and dropped it when things started to smell interesting in the midst of first crack. It's a bit sharp and acidic with some nice florality, I think next time I'll roast it longer, but brewing it with a cooler temp helps tame the acidity and I'm enjoying the coffee. I'm enjoying a cup now with my cigar and brewed a cup yesterday in the office in my PRESSE brew mug by Bobble using hot water from the water dispenser.

Pulled the Philippines Batangas Liberica as a straight shot of espresso on my Cafelat Robot, grinding at the highest speed on my Weber Key grinder for increased body. Interesting flavors, fruity and leather, reminds me of some good cigars I've smoked.

Coffee Blues
Mississippi John Hurt
This is the 'Coffee Blues', I likes a certain brand Maxwell's house
It's good till the last drop just like it says on the can, I used to have a girl
Cookin' a good Maxwell House, she moved away
Some said to Memphis and some said to Leland
But I found her, I wanted her to cook me
I understand if I can get me just a spoonful of Maxwell's house
It'll do me much good as two or three cups this other coffee
I've got to go to Memphis, bring her back to Leland
I wanna see my baby 'bout a lovin' spoon, my lovin' spoonful
Well, I'm just got to have my lovin', I found her
Good mornin', baby, how you do this mornin'?
Well, please, ma'am, just a lovin' spoon, just a lovin' spoonful
I declare, I got to have my lovin' spoonful
My baby packed her suitcase and she went away
I couldn't let her stay for my lovin', my lovin' spoonful
Well, I'm just got to have my lovin'
Good mornin', baby, how you do this mornin'?
Well, please, ma'am, just a lovin' spoon, just a lovin' spoonful
Well, I'm just got to have my lovin'
Ooh, the preacher in the pulpit, jumpin' up and down
He laid his Bible down for his lovin'
Ain't Maxwell house all right?
Well, I'm just got to have my lovin'
You can bring the Whiskey, you can bring me tea
Nothing satisfy me, man, but my lovin' spoon, my lovin'
Well, I'm just got to have my lovin'
Good mornin', baby, how you do this mornin'?
Well please ma'am, just lovin', just lovin' spoonful
Maxwell house all right, will lovin'
When your baby kiss my head and she want do right
Goodbye at night, give lovin'
Well lovin' spoonful
Well, I'm just got to have my lovin'
Good mornin', baby, how you do this mornin'?
Well, please, ma'am, just a lovin'
Oh the women in Greenwood the reason same
It's all about, their lovin', their lovin' spoonful
All clash alright their lovin'
I roasted two batches last night since I didn't have enough roasted coffee on hand for a morning pot.
Ecuador Finca Terrazas del Pisque
Ethiopia Dry Process Buno Dambi Uddo
I roasted the Ecuador darker and will use it first while I give the lighter Ethiopia roast a chance to rest. This morning I brewed a pot of coffee using the rest of the old pre-roast blend of the Ethiopia and the last of a Kenya I had and the new Ecuador roast to make weight. It was sweet and delicious.

Brewed a pot of Liberica, quite different but quite enjoyable. Wife liked it too!
^^^ scent reminded me of chocolate covered cherries 🍒

Sounds like my mom, she liked Maxwell House. Couldn't be bothered with a grinder. A pot of coffee would last her 3 days.

Are you related to Charlie Minato? JK, good info. Thanks for sharing.
Are you bry begging coffee now, Peter?
My supply of coffee and cigars are both quite adequate, as you can imagine.
LMK if you want some roast pig coffee.
Some coffee thoughts this morning.

Wasted time today by roasting a lb. of Peru and 1/2 lb. of Honduras Finca Santos red honey beans.
Stacking brewers is fun. In this case, it increases the surface area of ice that the hot brewed coffee travels through for a flash brewed coffee.
@Yakster & @peter4jc you've created a monster.

Dry-Processed Uganda here... nice fruit and leather.
Just remember, Jeremy, if you have any questions, concerns, or comments, don't hesitate to ask... @yakster will be happy to help.
