Lardera is offering one dollar 2 oz samples with free shipping. I'm waiting on a Gesha.

I can tell you the coffee where I’m staying in Mexico is worse than sewer sludge. I think my palate is ruined.

A good cigar and whiskey solve most problems.

That's a great deal unless the coffee sucks. I assume it's all decent. I ordered all the samplers, even the $1 per 2oz pre ground nitrogen purged bags because I'm thinking of sneaking them into Dad's coffee maker to see how he reacts. I'll just claim I put too much coffee in it.

My dad was ahead of the game, hand grinding coffee in his Parker 555 mill and buying Trader Joe's single origin coffee.

Let it cool down more and drink it black - guessing, I didn't read the article

I don't have problems, just more work to do.

I hope some of this rise in price is going to the farm workers:

    https://dailycoffeenews.com/2025/02/07/the-price-of-coffee-is-all-over-the-news-but-what-is-the-price-of-coffee/

At the time of this writing, the near-futures coffee prices on the ICE exchange (a.k.a. the “C price”) was sitting at an all-time high of around US$4.03 per pound.

I'm flabbergasted by the price jump in green coffee and somewhat conflicted about how I should react to it.

Based on what I think is the major reason for the push upward, investors and not coffee drinkers, I doubt that the price increase will translate to any benefit for the ones producing it.

Reflections in a can of c-rat coffee

    How many times
did you sit up with me? Kindle my thoughts,
    be my only friend.
how many times did I ask you for an answer?
Sitting in my hole at night waiting together
    to die, maybe.
You were my only company, you kept me going.
I forsake the world sometimes, yes.
    But never you.
    Don’t you see,
you were my friend and I was yours.
I looked into your black depths
and was nourished by your warmth.
Sometimes you would not let me rest.
    I hated you for that.
But how could a grunt hate his only friend?
    A lot of time
    has passed now.
    But I still have you.
    Old friends are the best.

Ok you guys. What's the word on putting unopened coffee beans in the freezer?

  • silvermousesilvermouse Posts: 22,069 ✭✭✭✭✭

It is ok if you let them warm up before you open the bag.

  • YaksterYakster Posts: 29,276 ✭✭✭✭✭

Tape over any vent hole first, they can get stuck open in the freezer. You can use canning jars to portion out coffee for the freezer.

    That's the main consideration.

I also suggest putting each of your coffees (in their bag) into a 1gal. ziplock. I don't know if double-bagging is absolutely necessary but think it's a good practice.

A friend in Va is just getting started with roasting coffee, think the inspection was the other day. Anyway he gave me a little Ethiopian couple weeks ago when he picked up a couple of pigs. It was a mix of two blends that were left over, wished it was something he was going to carry. He said tariffs on Ethiopia and their coffee isn't to bad as of now. But everyone is raising prices already.

That's business nowadays, unfortunately, any excuse to raise prices.

I'm probably going to have to raise my prices too, all the way up to 50% of what local coffee shops are selling for.

Don't tell us that until after it has happened! We will all order vast quantities now for the freezer. >:)
