Tip; get one that uses AAA batteries - they last longer and are easier to find than the button batteries."I could've had a Mi Querida!" Nick Bardis3

Was trying to figure out the ratios on press for some YakRoast this morning and wifey is bugging about "Why is it taking you so long to make coffee??" I'm barking across the kitchen: "Cuz I'm trying to do some math before I've had my damn coffee!"
Thanks for the tips and opening another world of flavor for the taste buds and another world of hurt for my wallet.

Got a question - what do you coffee geeks think of the notion. of storing my roasted beans in the refrigerator?
I’m not thinking in terms of temperature but in terms of light. My containers are opaque white which don’t block light very well and the beans stored in the fridge would be in the dark most of the time.
I’d be interested in hearing your opinions on this....
Thanks.... 👴🏻

every time you open the cold container moisture will condense on the beans, perhaps small containers like half-pint mason jars filled with enough for the day's coffee would be better.1

The fridge is the worst place, maybe not for your containers, but flavors and aromas in a fridge can migrate to where you don't want it.
Your cupboard is just as dark as your fridge.
That said, and this is just my opinion, may be true, may be false... the three main enemies of coffee freshness, in order, are oxygen, moisture/humidity, and light. But light degrades coffee so minimally that it's not worth considering for the most part.
But this raises another question, Marty; why put the beans in a container and not leave them in the foil bags? Bags work better than containers because you can squeeze some of the excess air out before sealing the bag."I could've had a Mi Querida!" Nick Bardis2 -

I’m pretty limited for cupboard space but I suppose I could rearrange things so I could put my containers in the cupboard. Or, I could try working out of the foil bags.
My containers have a ‘tupperware’ type seal so they’re pretty airtight. They just don’t block light very well. If you think the effect of light on the beans is minimal then I’d probably be just as well off to maintain status quo.
I think i’ll give that a try since it requires the least effort.
Thanks for your input, gentlemen. @silvermouse and @peter4jc. I appreciate it. .... 👍0 -

I buy at least 3 bags at a time and I see oils on the last batch of the last bag.0 -
Filed under "Why Reinvent the Wheel" I copied this from "Storing Coffee" in an article online;
"Any airtight container can be used to store coffee. If you choose a rigid container such as a plastic canister it should be easily washed, and should be done so every few months. Because the excess air can be squished out of the zipper bags our coffees come in, we recommend you simply leave the coffee in the bag. Refrigeration is not recommended, since other flavors from other foods can migrate to the coffee, and there is no real benefit to keeping it cool in the fridge.""If you want to really go the extra mile, you can double-bag the coffee, placing our bag inside a larger ziplock bag, and simply keep it in a dark, dry place such as inside a cupboard or cabinet."
"Some customers want to place larger orders to spread out their shipping costs, and this is where a good freezer comes in. In the “What To Expect” section we explain the out-gassing of CO2 during the resting period the beans go through after they come out of the roaster. Freezing more or less arrests this resting process, and in doing so, arrests the staling process as well. For long-term storage, freezing is actually a very good option, especially a non frost-free freezer, since the way that type of freezer avoids frost build-up is to periodically raise the temps in the freezer and slightly thaw things out. Again, double-bagging in a larger ziplock, say gallon-size bags, is important. The only caution against freezing coffee is to allow the bag you pull out for use, to come up to room temperature for a half hour or so to avoid any moisture in the air from condensing onto the beans when you open the bag. That’s the main reason we discourage freezing for daily-use coffees; every time you bring it out and open it, you’re introducing enemy #2 into the coffee beans."
"Remember the rule of ordering what you expect to use in two weeks, three weeks at the most, unless you can keep one bag out and freeze the remaining bags."

I got to seriously liking iced coffee some years back. When the weather changes I will brew 2 pots, one for the fridge.
For Saint Patty's day I will make it triple strength, add (all in equal amounts) Irish Cream or Powers, flavored Irish Cream Cream and coffee. All sit in the fridge for a day before mixing. I have been known to forget the coffee, no one but my mother noticed.0 -
Please don't put us Irish in that cream crap catagory, drink whisky/scotch instead."We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give". Winston Churchill.

I finished my YakRoast but for some reason, now I'm:
1. Scrubbing my Mr. Coffee parts (lol)
2. Weigh and Grind then brew
3. Only filling with enough water to brew in 5 mins
4. Stirring bloom
5. Removing from heat after done...
It is a dark road I have set upon....Now where did I see that Baratza Grinder on sale?
