Throughout history governing the masses has been a problem, they have a tendency to kill each other. Nowadays, with a generation of cyber idiots, incapable of even talking to each other and turning to self medication when their fascination for their phones doesn't lead to wealth without work, our leaders don't know what to do with them. So, either they or the government are likely to tear society apart. Always been that way. Either violence in the street or war or both.

Did the government shutdown? I didn't notice. Oh wait my SS check didn't come in...oh, it never does on the 1st
Direct deposit, no? I also thought that was changed a while ago. I thought now they sent them based on your birthday… Am I wrong on this? In retail, we were told this was because there was an influx of purchases early in the month and to reduce traffic in grocery stores. Have I been lied to!?

Lol, "I don't want government but where's my social security check?"
LOL. They took it, so why shouldn't we want it back?
Exactly. It's only an "entitlement" if you're drawing money you never invested in the program. Illegal aliens, dipshidts too lazy to work, thugs like that. For the rest of us, it's probably the only retirement option we had that was worth putting money into.
Corporations fold, rob the retirement fund and give it to CEO's who make every year what most of us made in a lifetime, and then shuffle the top of the pyramid and create a "new" company with the money they stole from their workers.
The advantage here is that we can vote the people in charge out of office. But, we almost never do. And they count on that, that and brainwashing the young into thinking that the folks who are receiving the benefits are getting something for nothing. Soon, those young folks will be old, and suddenly they'll realize that they whined so much about the money that the old folks were getting "for nothing", and now their money's gone, too.
Wah! Wa-aah!

Not sure what the wah wah was for but I never said it was an entitlement or that you didn't earn it or anything else. I was just trolling with a juxtaposition of hating or not liking the government vs. relying on a government social programs hahaha.
But to be clear, the money you're getting out of social security is not the money that you put into it 50 years ago. All of that money is long gone and the Congress of your United States and my United States has stolen it from you. You're getting paid from the funds that I'm putting in right now. And that will mean that I'll either never see those funds, or the government will print money to the point at which they can repay me, making that money worthless.
It's okay though. You are funding and have funded a fat government retirement for me for the last 35 years, and my wife works for the state and those jobs never pay in a social security. We'll call it even!
Toodles and smooches!

Very sorry about that, that comment was just me ranting about general societal attitudes and not aimed at you, at all. Seriously. Pretty much the whole thing had nothing to do with you in particular, and more to do with other stuff from other places. My bad for not recognizing that you'd take it as directly spoken to you.

This is what we need so much more of! Steve and Frank on opposite sides of the political spectrum that can be civil. Total respect for both of you guys.
He's not even close to the 35 days from 2018. 🫣 We haven’t surpassed the 21 days from 95/96 or the 16 days of government shutdown from 2013.
As a few of you have said previously, this is political theater at its best. It only hurts the supporting cast… disrupting various government services, affecting federal employees and contractors.
My distaste for government and utter disdain for government officials is at an all time high.
A good cigar and the open road solve most problems.

"When they talk about the government shutdown, they’re going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time," Trump said. "They’re not going to be talking about who was the head of the House, the head of the Senate, who’s running things in Washington. So I really think the pressure is on the president."
I hear it's all because the left won't vote yes on the bill without health care for all the illegals that have invaded the last 5 years or so. If so, it's pretty telling where their priorities and allegiances lie.

It's all political theater, it's a continuing funding bill. Didn't the Dems know the health provisions they are wanting, were expiring? Pass the bill and hash it out over the next 7 weeks. I hope Trump goes nuclear and cuts the federal workforce significantly and permanently. The government has been expanding for years. How many were added just during Bidens years. I know I heard reports that the goverment was the major player in new jobs created.
Don't let the wife know what you spend on guns, ammo or cigars.
