This may explain some of the angst regarding taxpayer dollars being spent on medical care for illegals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n0ywgpt0Dc

Far from being the first time in history where most folks blame or credit the govt, but very little individual action is taken

Are you advocating we start dealing with illegals on a personal and individual level? Is it appropriate to use firearms, are should we stick with lynching?

Is violence the only option you are leaving open?

We can ask them politely to leave, but without government assistance I don't see a lot of individual action that can be taken...

In 1964 or 65 immigration laws were changed and an giant loophole was put into them that allowed a large influx of people coming here. Bill Clinton put someone in a position to stop this, liberal black (women of color... please fill in you own words to make this as non racist as possible), a democrat from Texas, and in words she did. Obama talked about putting an end to folks coming over without approval. This seems to be more than a political issue. As long as folks are paying them nothing will be done. Many commercial beekeepers bring folks over yearly to work a season. These folks get paid well, and have a ton of rights and benefits that they must be given under H-2A laws. If folks were forced to pay fair amount of money for labor (no this is not a union or non union issue) it may help. Shoot, many of the workers earn an entire s year income and really do not want to stay here. Just wondering how much more difficult ( if it is) for folks that want to come here compared to other countries. Perhaps we need to take a look at our process and see if it needs to be adjusted to help the folks we want as neighbors to get here. Definitely do not have all if any of the answers, at the same time have no problem with neighbors No matter where they are from. (as far as neighbors keep some distance, no matter who it is, I do like my space lol)

You're not wrong, but I was calling attention the the juxtaposition of your initial post in which you said we bemoan the government for the immigration, but don't do anything to fix it on the individual level. The simple fact is that there is nothing we can do about it on the individual level excepting violence. All of the possible answers here go back to the government.

Thought about dropping this in 'What are you reading' but think it has bigger implications here. A republican has just bought Dominion Voting Systems.

Shouldn't matter. Was the old owner a Democrat? Maybe we will have a new run of conspiracy theories when the Dems lose.

If you follow Dominions roots back to electing Chavez in the early 2000's it is a fraudulent dream. I had friends in Venezuela at the time. Their stories are mute because Chavez won. The winner tells the story

Re-watched the movie "Idiocracy" last night. I don't think either of our major political parties are leading us away from this future.

The first thing I think of is how are all of these things measured? Is it by number of people or number of dollars? With 60 million people in the fifth largest economy in the world, the number of people and number of dollars is just going to be bigger than the rest of the states.

Is it number one in homeless people by the number of people? Well the state with the biggest population and some of the best weather is probably going to have the most homeless people.

It is also number one in people who have homes and live in homes.

Is it number one in addiction by number of people addicted to something? It is also number one in people who are not addicted to something.

Is it number one in covid mandates by number of people mandated?

States cannot run budget deficits by law.

Is it number one in covid closures by the number of closures? Well it has the most stuff like schools and stores.

Is it the number one in frivolous lawsuits by number of lawsuits? Well it also has the most number of non-frivolous lawsuits.

While it is the number one in illiteracy by number of people, it is also number one in literacy by number ofpeople.

Is it number one in theft by amount of money of theft? It is also number one in sales and number one in stuff.

I mean I don't really care who the next president is. If we survive this guy, we can survive anybody.

Bottom line: you have enough on this guy to where you don't have to make **** up.

This question plagued me as a child. From Kindergarten to H.S. graduation I went to 9 different schools. Every new school there was the incessant struggle to find one's place, or be put in one's place, and I don't think there's any way around it. It seems that competition is inherent to life on this planet. We grow, or die, in the struggle.

Have you read G.W.F. Hegel's Philosophie of History? Advances seem only to come to human society through the clash of differing cultures. The initial conflict and competition eventually settles, at least for a time, and the exchange of knowledge and custom leads to something new. Synthesis in motion.

All that said, it would seem that cooperation and mutual benefit would be nice to try sometime. I think of this any time I drive in urban areas. You know, we could transport most of those folks by train and use a lot less energy and have a greatly decreased impact on the environment.

Coffee cup is running low, enough rambling.

Thanks, I haven't read Hegel's Philosophie of History but will. I think we learn from our mistakes than from our successes. It is nice to learn from both but, from my observations, the former escapes most people.

    this part struck me:

The destiny of the spiritual World, and, — since this is the substantial World, while the physical remains subordinate to it, or, in the language of speculation, has no truth as against the spiritual, — the final cause of the World at large, we allege to be the consciousness of its own freedom on the part of Spirit, and ipso facto, the reality of that freedom. But that this term “Freedom,” without further qualification, is an indefinite, and incalculable ambiguous term; and that while that which it represents is the ne plus ultra of attainment, it is liable to an infinity of misunderstandings, confusions and errors, and to become the occasion for all imaginable excesses, — has never been more clearly known and felt than in modern times.

Imagine, what would he think now? All these years later, and it simply became more and more true.

At what point does the relatively noble Libertarian impulse, beneficial for the most part, degrade into the merely Libertine without benefit to anything but hedonistic realization?

It's a chaotic and complicated world we struggle to make sense of.

Sitting under a tree with a good cigar is all we can do.

    "Watching The Wheels"

People say I'm crazy doing what I'm doing
Well they give me all kinds of warnings to save me from ruin
When I say that I'm o.k. they look at me kind of strange
Surely you're not happy now you no longer play the game

People say I'm lazy dreaming my life away
Well they give me all kinds of advice designed to enlighten me
When I tell that I'm doing Fine watching shadows on the wall
Don't you miss the big time boy you're no longer on the ball?

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go

People asking questions lost in confusion
Well I tell them there's no problem
    Only solutions
Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if I've lost my mind
I tell them there's no hurry...
I'm just sitting here doing time

I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round
I really love to watch them roll
No longer riding on the merry-go-round
I just had to let it go

Sun Tzu wrote something in The Art of War, can't remember exactly but something as to " Appear weak when you are strong, appear strong when you are weak". In some cases this may be the very reason folk have to show a perceived power.
