Rocky Patel Thread!

It's the Rocky Thread!! This guy is one of my tip top favorite cigar makers and i just met him last weekend at an event here in Fresno. Awesome down to earth guy! Review your Rocky's... I had a crap ass day at work so i just sparked up a RP Fusion Robusto. The have been in the humi for a while. This cigar is a smoke bomb!! Loads of rich creamy smoke with every puff. The draw is very easy and burn is beautifully even. A very cool smoke all the way down, never got hot. Has a nice slight sweetness combined with a very good and pronunced earth taste supported by nice hints of cocoa and leather. I think this is a mild m/medium cigar, slightly to the mild side. Doesnt have a strong punch to it but it is very smooth smoke. Just noticed lots of cocoa in the aroma too. I have a few Fusion Double Maduros in the humi, cant wait to try them. Anyone tried the Decade or the Old World Maduro? If any passes come my way i'll be throwing one of these in for sure, ya'll gotta try these!

I've had a decade, not a bad smoke, I'd smoke it again.

I've loved all the RPs I've had. Edge was good and I love VIntage 1992. I have a couple Decades resting, as well as a Meritage. Haven't heard much on that one.

    im the Gurkha Guerilla!

RP puts out a fer good smokes. I have to say that the nording is one of my favorites.

Meritage huh? Havent heard of that one. Just like at the event i went to he had a line called "Maduro by Rocky Patel". I have a few but havent smoked them, they smelled like a pretty big maduro. "Autumn Harvest" is another one he has out that nobody seems to know much about.

Rocky has so many different blends, it is hard to keep count of them all. For example, I'm sure there are more than a few here who have not seen the RP Rosado, Cuban Blend or Honduran Classic, all of which are pretty good cigars and very much worth trying but are maybe not as well known because they are exclusive to one online retailer.

The Vintage 92 is in any list of my favorite cigars, and I love the Fusion MM in the lancero size. The Vintage 90 and the Sun Grown didn't wow me so much.

I have a few Decades resting. I'll be getting around to one sometime soon.

The Decade was a pretty good smoke, though it was tainted by me having to pay 14$ for the stick in Vegas, damn casinos trying to make a profit. Anywho, pretty good, don't remember anything that was outstanding but I'd smoke it again.

You must not live in California, i cant find the Decade in any shop for under 18....Thank you Comrade Schwarzenegger....
  • I can get the Decade here in Charlotte for about $10 bucks I can't believe prices are that much higher in the Republik of California or West coast for that matter as it appears

I got the Decade for $10 here in NJ at a local B&M. Didn't Tim come on here and offer them for $7 a couple of months ago. I remember I jumped at it and got a 5 pack I think. Or was it a 10 pack?

    Of RP Decades.

I live in California, but I bought and smoked the Decade on a trip in Vegas. I might poke around a few B&M's here locally and in San Diego and see if I can find a place to get Decades at a decent price.

Gotta love the 49% tax out here. Anyone have any luck with aging any of the Rocky's? Had my first Edge last night. Big time taste, very robust, really reminded me of a Gurkha....not to spark that fire or anything....

Ahhh this is my kinda thread. Its been a little while since I've had a RP actually. But the Nicarao and Nording are two of my favorites.
  • kuzi16kuzi16 Posts: 14,633 ✭✭✭✭
i am diggin on the nording. my local shop sells em. ive had some burn issues with them but the flavor makes it worth while.

like i said before, i think that i like honduran tobacco more than nicaraguan, therefore i tend buy cigars that have that profile (gurkha) where RP tends to go more for nicaraguan tobacco. something doesnt sit right with me and most nicaraguan tobacco.

Speaking of Rocky and Honduran, ever had the REO? It's pretty good and really fits the characteristics of honduran, even though it has a bit of Nic filler
  • kuzi16kuzi16 Posts: 14,633 ✭✭✭✭
    yes i have.

i liked that but not enough to buy em all the time.

Finally scored a good deal on some Olde World Reserves, Maduro Torpedo. I got em online(for those following my previous posts i given up on buying in california:) Great Smoke! Even burn, very good draw, only a slight amount of drag to it. An earthy, creamy smoke, i almost could swear you could chew on the smoke, kinda like a vintage 92 if you've hade em. Medium body and that good rocky smoothness. I have yet to be disappointed by one of his cigars. Speaking of which has anyone had an ass rocket from him?

I've always had good smokes from Rocky! The Decade and the 92 are my favorites. I'm going to pick up some of the Edge Sumatra Wednesday and possibly a few of the Renaissance if they have them in at my favorite shop. I've never tried either one but I'm ready to give them a shot.
  • Jetmech_63Jetmech_63 Posts: 3,451 ✭✭✭
I cant find the Edge Sumatra, but i do have and have tried the Corojo. It's smooth, nutty and packs a helluva punch.
  • madurofanmadurofan Posts: 6,219 ✭✭✭
Look for the new Rocky Patel Renaissance it is the same thing as the RP Edge Sumatra.

I just went to the 10th Anniversary of a cigar shop here in Atlanta and was able to meet Mr. Patel. He is a very nice guy and down to earth. He even gave me a Rocky Patel magazine and autographed it for me and also gave me a Rocky Patel Renaissance (new cigar released in Sept. 2008) box, which is really cool. It is a gorgous box. I also decided to try the new cigar. The cigar is great. Very even burn, light to medium gray ash, medium bodied, spicey with a medium finish. I loved this cigar. I smoked it all the way down to the nub. If you have a chance to get one, I highly recommend it. They only make 6,000 boxes of this cigar a year. (120,000 cigars)

    "Long ashes my friends."

Rocky is a really cool guy. Did he give you a whole box of cigars or just an empty box? A full box would be a shweeet score! At the event did you see a cigar called Maduro of Costa Rica? I've been trying to find them but near as i can tell, those only travel around with him. I really regret not buying more when ihad the chance.
