time to start thinking about a fall garden, kale and romaine are in the seed beds, onions and garlic that I cut off at ground level when the heat set in are kicking up shoots, a couple of tomato plants continued to grow thru the summer though they havent had fruit in a couple month they will start producing again if I can win the annual battle with hornworms that show up this time of year, bagged a few of the buggers this morning the size of a healthy corona

been a great vegetable growing season here, no rain to spread plant diseases, the downside is having to water more often.

We have kale, collards, and nappa cabbage started in flats and it's been to dry to set them out. Supposed to rain day after tomorrow I hope. I need to get those plants into the ground.

Nice, looks like a serious kayak, not just a fun paddle in the sun kind like mine.

    agree.
i have only seen green mantises before too.

the plant has purple flowers, and the stems have a purple hue.....
so the only thing i can figure is that it's this type of mantis..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flower_mantis ..... and adapted it's color to match the plant.

Great year for tomatoes here in Georgia.
Brandywine, Betterboy Hybrid and Beef Steaks were my primary varieties along with Gardeners Delight and Cherokee Purple as experiments.
If anyone likes plum tomatoes might I suggest Gardeners Delight.
These things ran between12 to 16 feet and were loaded, and still are, to the point that the ground is now covered around the plants.
They have a mild flavor with a good acid content. Overall a good small tomatoe.
After mid August I could not give tomatoes away.
    Now for the Winter garden...

    Jerusalem Artichoke.
    Has anyone here tried them?
I find them great for Stir frying or simply snacking on fresh.

I used to grow jerusalem artichokes but the sugar (inulin) disagreed with me, loved the crunch and earthy flavor though. Good survival plant to have growing on your land.
