Makers is a very solid and reliable bourbon. The part that impresses me about Makers Mark as well as Woodford's is how consistent it is. Think about it this way, this is a hand crafted product made from mash that is grown and harvested each year many times. To take a product that is inherently different each and every time due to the fact that it is grown outdoors and in different souls etc and have the end product come out tasting nearly identical each time is a huge feat in and of itself. To have the same whiskey in the bottle every time for over two decades is something extremely impressive in its own right. For that I really do respect what they do. So rant over and I would say Makers and Woodford's is on the cheaper side but still a very solid bourbon that I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
Angel's is far more complex as well as smoother and deeper body and flavor but it is also about $20 more a bottle. If you are looking for a cheaper but really good bourbon I would point you towards a lot of Wild Turkey stuff, their Rare Breed can often be found for near the $30 mark and is one of my daily drinkers. Basil Hayden's is another thought as a wheated bourbon it's a bit lighter body. Elijah Craig 12 year and Eagle Rare 10 year single barrel for $30 is one of the single best deals in bourbon out there, and if you can find it the Very Old Barton, Heaven Hill 6 year Bottled in Bond white label, and Old Weller Antique can easily got head to head with any bourbon under $75/bottle. Hope that helps point you in the right direction. Any other questions just ask

I have some of the Elijah Craig 12 at home and I got to say I'm not really enjoying it. It has a bit too much upfront bite for me.

Some people dig Elijah and some don't, I don't have any Elijah in mine because it just doesn't hit my palate right. Overall though it's generally a pretty safe recommendation for most, sorry it's not working for ya though Wayne

Yeah they got a bottle engraved with their names for their wedding day so I get to have some of the extra special stuff.
Very nice man!!!! I forget the name but I had the one above th gold reserve, was a 21st bday present and came in a cardboard tube just can't remember the name but it was terrific.

Just did some searching and found it, it was the Jameson 12 yr special reserve. Loved it, been a long time but that's a great representation of an Irish whiskey. I want to try one of the Redbreast Pot Still Irish whiskey next but every time I have the money and go to the store I find a bourbon that I know I love it would love and end up grabbing that.

The White Label 6 year is one of my fav all time bourbon and like it more than almost any other in my cabinet, and at only $15/bottle it's one of the best kept secrets in whiskey! I have two bottles, not quite one full bottle between the two. Yes both bottles are open but that's because one cracked and I already had the other open. Just wish I could get this in CO instead of having to have a friend or two ship it to me.

I think I'm going to try and find some of that Heaven Hill white Label 6 Year once I drink down some more of my Rum, sounds good. Any tips on where to look, @90+_Irishman?

Wish I could help but I always have to have one of my buddies from Illinois or Kentucky or Tennessee get it for me

I can tell you that the 10 is the Four Roses single barrel and is very good. How it blends with another bourbon? I'm not sure. It is cool your coworker gave it to you but I would just buy the Four Roses single barrel any day.
I picked up 2 bottles of Blanton's over the past few weeks. The distributor around here was having trouble getting it and every place that carried it were out of it. I babied the bottle I got from my secret Santa on here until two weeks ago. I had to have the last when my daughter was born. Luckily my job put me in a part of the state where I found a small liquor store that had two bottles left. Now I am a happy man for a while longer!

Buffalo Trace is having problems keeping up with demand. They are in the middle of a major expansion and are building 35 new rickhouses in the next 6 years. Blanton's and Eagle Rare are both hard to come by these days.

It is funny, Mike, that distribution thing. I have never seen a bottle of four roses out here in Utah. Believe me, I have looked! I would love to add a bottle or three to the whiskey stash

How do you get a stash. I drink mine way to fast to accumulate a stash.

Make multiple trips uneccesarily to the liquor store and buy at least one if not two bottles every visit... Make sure to visit often. It's the same thing as CAS excerpt it's BAS for bourbon

I like to sip the good stuff. I have a crazy metabolism, 3ish beers will get me to a good place and then I can sip the good stuff
Besides that, an unfinished basement keeps 'em nice and cool, even in summer!
I have a couple wine racks, red gets its own and white shares with sake and other 750 bottles. The rest are sorted by type (yuup, I am one of those humans, organizing stuffs).
I dont have a home bar, per se, but when we get to the remodel phase am planning on one.
It it really just accumulated over time. I like to have variety, and the nice thing about whiskey is I don't believe there is a single crap bottle.

I recently got sucked into hype and picked up a bottle of Henry McKenna 10-Year Bottled in Bond.
I was very pleasantly surprised. I'm no bourbon expert, but this was one of the smoothest bourbons I've ever had. Mellow sweet with minimal burn and bitter notes.

I've got a bottle of this and it's great stuff, love it and bottled in bond for 10 years is nearly unheard of too!

I tried Rebecca Creek whiskey (made in Tx) and Maker's Mark 46. They were both smooth and outstanding.
Anyone else tried these?
