Holy mackerel! Turned mine off this morning...thanks Edward!

I have an Amazon Tap on the smoking porch and my phone connects with it. However, the instructions at https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html do not apply, as there is neither tap app nor alexa app aboard the phone.
We do have an old Alexa kicking around, but we shut that down years ago... see, we have a grandson named Alex, and so every time we would mention his name Alexa would chime in with some irrelevant remark.
Have a google home mini smart speaker in the napatorium. Use it all the time. Listens all the time. If I ask my phone a question here in the office, like as not the little round dot of a speaker in the napatorium will reply. No app for that either, far as I can see.

We have had 3" of rain, finally, this weekend. And we are in the middle of a drought since it has been very dry all winter. The Cape has a lentil of fresh water surrounded by the ocean so when the ground water is over-drawn the salt water threatens to intrude on our only water source. So, we are required to not water the damned lawns every day and do our best to conserve water. You would think that having a deluge the last couple of days would inspire folks to turn their water sprinklers off. Nope, too much work to push the button.
50 degrees, blustery, dreary, and rainy all weekend.
Had to put down the pup this morning.
So, weather mirrors the event.
Even the budgie is perched on one foot, puffed up, with her eyelids half mast.
I'll smoke something. That'll do it.

I have only one app that uses Alexa to select the music I play on my iPhone or tv. If I don’t have the Amazon Alexa app on either my iPhone or laptop am I still at risk?
If you have a Amazon Device, you should be able to go into the Alexa app on your phone and go to settings and account and opt out of Amazon Sidewalk. I checked and I don't see that option for me, but I recall opting out of this when I first heard about it probably sometime last year.
The ArsTechnica didn't make a good case for there being a risk to having this enabled, but I'd disable it anyway. The Guest Connect doesn't sound good either, I'd disable that. Basically with Guest Connect someone with the Amazon Alexa app on their mobile device could connect and use your Alexa Echo devices when they're nearby--I assume on the same WiFI network--to play their music and news etc.

Ah, so. Many thanks, Chris. It looks like I have no problems with this. I’ll just have to keep an eye out for new apps that could be susceptible.
I own a Dot, 2 Echo Flex, 2 Echo Show and 2 Ring Doorbells. I’m keeping it enabled for now. The bandwidth used is negligible and no one gives a shît about my info. They are all listening all the time anyhow.
Who was it hacked into a casino via the fish tank monitor? I forget now. Stole substantial something.
Then there were the cats who hacked into recent election software via a wireless thermostat from the Georgia hearing room where the tribunal in question failed to call the election into question.
But I spose that once Equifax got hacked that horse left the barn so what me worry.

Buddha in contemplation huh? Funny, for some reason I was expecting it to be The Emperor's New Clothes. Oh my, isn't it lovely? I may make one for myself, get a little upscale culture going on around here.

Above we see two labels, from items in my refrigerator.
One of the labels is indicative of a company that recognizes the negative impact of cultural stereotypes and the ultimate beauty and strength of diversity in our nation.
On the other label, racist forces have compelled the manufacturer to remove the image of the beautiful Native American woman.
Food for thought. The brainwashed will disagree. Post up those WTF's.

It's rained 20 days this month, so far. That includes two days of 3-4 inches this week.

I don't know, Marty, maybe @Yakster does, I think he is alexa-wise.
Many thanks, Edward. I’ll rattle his cage a bit…. 😁
Yo, @Yakster, are you up and about? Did you read the question I asked @silvermouse?
Any help for this Oldfart would be appreciated…. 👴🏻
Looks like this only applies if you have an Amazon device, that it doesn't apply to the apps on your mobile phones or tablets.

Amazon is selling "Blue Lives Murder" tee shirts. No MAGA gear, Confederate flags, conservative books, but that tee shirt is OK.
