Splitting the White Oak that Helene took down. I only work about two hours a day at this pile. I enjoy the work and I get to use a very old short hammer that belonged to my great grandfather.
Thanks, Rodger, you inspired me to go out and split a cherry log in half with a wedge (after hitting it a dozen times with the splitting maul, lol). I dislike the noise but it was rewarding.
Went to Cracker Barrel (I know). Meatloaf comes out colder than room temp, refrigeration cold. I eat my sides and then the server comes out. I tell him it's cold. He apologized and took my plate with the meatloaf. He comes out literally less than a minute with my same meatloaf. I asked "Was that just microwaved?" He responds "Yup"..... I said "No thank you". He looked at me puzzled...... I guess this is acceptable for Cracker Barrel
Edit : Server comes out to finish up and asks "Take the meatloaf off?" ........... 😐🫤😑🤨

I certainly need a recovery day after a ride of that length, Edward. I'll turn 57 in October, and have not been physically fit for extended periods of time. I have mostly been in reasonable shape, but my cardio-vascular fitness has been lacking. I am working to remedy that shortcoming, and bicycling has gone a long way to that end, especially considering bad knees that prevent running (which I generally loathe) and hiking more than a few miles (which I would love to do, but it puts me in great pain for several days afterwards).
> In a few weeks, we will be doing a 30-miler in Manassas, VA. I don't expect the time or average speed to be near as good, the ride has over 1200 feet of vertical gain, so 12 mph average would be a win for me.
Biking is also something my wife and I can do together, and taking weekend or even just day trips for a riding event has been good for our relationship, too.
(My "Like" is for cherishing good health. I hope you can recover yours. I like that you try, and get outside for walks and work on your property.)
Quoting my own post to say, we finished our 30-mile ride in Manassas (actual 28.7mi) in 2:02 ride time, almost exactly 14mph average. The hills were rolling, and only steep in a few short stretches. We can't quite believe we averaged 14mph, very happy with the result. All in all, a really nice 3-day weekend (and the weather was perfect).
Turned on the heat for the first time this year this morning. Cranked it up to 64* just to take the chill off.
My neighbors like it when Fall rolls around, mostly because it means my windows will be closed and for the next six months they will barely hear my music.
Found a new place to walk after Helene. The storm sure closed up the woods with uncountable trees down and across the path I have been walking for the past two years. That path is gone for good. Now I walk up and down steep hills in a Frasier Fir farm. Lots of Christmas trees fields that border woods. In the woods there are big oaks and maples uprooted and tangled up. A big dangerous mess. Talked to a guy that had to go in with a chainsaw followed by another man with a trackhoe to clear a 100 yard section of a rough wooded road so they could get their harvested trees out. I walk to the fairgrounds first, check out folks who are still going out all day with saws and fourwheelers to help isolated folks. Watch the helos landing and loading up and then go to the treefarm and finish my walk. There are several trails lots of deer. About a hour and a half and I get good cardio.
More water delivery shenanigans. Please tell me it's one of you guys sending her cases of water via Amazon

And for the record, I didn't bring this one in the house either.

Dropped my car off to get some work and walked home because it's a beautiful day. Busy time of year at the elevator. I believe this is the tallest structure in my town.
I should have got a pic of the other corn pile out of frame to the left that was twice as big as the center pile. You can see them adding to the pile on the right if you look close.
It's temporary storage. It'll be loaded on rail cars. There was a train sitting there waiting to be loaded, you can see a couple cars in the background to the left of the center pile.
Look what I had to dodge on the way out to my car this morning!

What, you're phoning it in again?
Trapped in the People's Communist Republic of Massachusetts.
Outstanding. You should add a shopping cart ride through the skeletons... pulled by an Ogre.

The neighbors, for not enjoying your music.

I was wondering what was under that huge tarp. Why is the corn just piled up in a heap, is it drying, going into the silos ?
