What Do You Want From the Forum?

Some of you have already inboxed me, but I think it's best if we make this a thread: what do you want from the Forum?

Any particular changes to things, ideas you think should be implemented, cigars you want but don't have access to, etc. While I wish I was as tech saavy as the people in IT and Web Development, I'm not, but I have direct access to them, so I can start discussing with them what should be done.

Thanks everyone  B)

Some stickies about coolers, humidification (boveda and KL), and the usual noob onetime post issues.

Let me add also that I don’t want to make the forum over complicated to the point ccom doesn’t want to mess with it anymore. We don’t want to become refugees and start over anywhere else.

stop censoring the disagree and wtf buttons. We are all adults and stand by our expressed views. A healthy dialog includes disagreement and the occasional wtf. Speaking of censoring, the algorithm that prohibits common words like "k n o b" and "s h a g" just because they have also been used as suggestive analogues is just juvenile.
What's funny is I just got censored myself, and I typed something that I think most people would consider as pretty mild. There must be something built into a code because I don't have any control over certain words being removed and replaced by asterisks, or even the buttons.  I'll talk to IT about that since like I said, I'm not a tech person... If I get into the back-end of this site it won't take me long to crash it because I'm tech inept. LOL

Make it so we can edit our posts past the one hour limit.
The one hour limit is a pain and if we are doing box passes or contests, creates more posts than necessary.

This was mentioned to me recently, and it makes total sense. Thanks for sharing.

@TheCigarChick Oh, it appears to be a Vanilla forum, I'm more accustomed to the Xenforo forum, but your IT should be pretty adept at the console, which ought to be point and click for the most part.

Do something about the filth. I looked forward to the female lady people's perspectives and posts. Don't know if they object to it but they seem to have gone elsewhere. Or if that is too hard move all of it to its own section. I will never get any cookies if you don't.

As I have said before, the WTF button seems to be directed at the story rather than the poster, so it is hard to understand the blackout.

I also greatly support the idea of a “read this first if you’re new” section. Almost all of us support the use of plastic storage containers of some kind and bovedas, it would be good for new people to see that before they ask. I also agree with the wtf and disagree buttons. If someone wants to flag something, that was anonymous before and could stay that way. Most of the time when someone disagrees it’s for information. Someone may say “is this Gurkha worth $20” and then I can just tap that button and they can see it was me saying that. Also maybe make @yaksters vherf links sticky so I can access them easily from a new device instead of having to find a post by him to see his signature.

I've gotten used to this forum's quirks.

A way to just display new messages would be nice to have.

Display user's signatures in mobile view.

A stronger, less washed out style would make it easier to read.

    Thanks for asking.

Also, maybe create a politics category for people who want to talk about that on a cigar forum for some reason, so I can know to avoid it.
They already have one. "Non Cigar Related" "Jokes, sports, politics and the like!"

    Pithy
Is that really the best you can do?
Filth and obscenity is just that.
And I do not see a "Heading" for it anywhere on this forum.

Come on JD. If you or anyone else is offended don’t open the thread. Sounds like you are jumping across the political isle. Shouldn’t we have the right to choose instead of having someone choose for us? I agree they are filthy and obscene and will not look at them (unless my wife makes me).
YES we should. You have porn sites for one handed typing. If that interested me I would join one, but I would not post it on here.
If someone makes a post that interests me I will join it. It does not happen often.
Look on the bright side, I have a few people with nothing to do of any importance keeping busy with some really pathetic posts, no thinking, just words thrown together. And I am sure that anonymous disagrees will start showing up.I did not start most political posts but I will sure as h.ell join one. Who knows maybe someone actually read a book and I can learn something, which is what it is all about.
If you don't want me to be political, get rid of the political heading and stop posting things politic. But until that happens put up with it or don't open it.
I am a very strong believer in free speech even though others on here are not.

A display of who started a thread as well as the last commenter would be nice. Or the ability to hide threads permanently.
This is the only forum I belong to that does not have an "IGNORE" button. I belong to two fountain pen forums, one of which is controlled by liberals, who are not very bright. It is so easy to pull up a screen name and hit ignore. Just think of it, it boggles the mind.

Tell you what. Have your wives, mothers and kids read this forum.
See what sticks out to them. See what your kids get glued to.

I don't understand the desire to make an adult site, 21+ age verified, filtered by most content filters already "kid" friendly.

Are we expecting kids to participate in a tobacco forum?

The other categories are already represented here.
As far as age verification/limits, that's simply the result of the FDA and other top-down legislation with respect to tobacco. Obviously if one is on any website where tobacco is sold (or an affiliate), it's a necessary evil; it's the same as when you purchase cigars online.
