Went to the Chiropractor this morning...had to be temperature tested with some ray gun thing. They said it’s to see if I had a fever. I think I’d know pretty quickly if I had a fever, sweating etc. before even leaving the house...

I've got one of those IR thermometers in the garage somewhere, I'm going to start shooting my family with it once I find it.

You gotta check them before you allow entry into the house. 😂

I think it’s everyone vying for government aid. If 5% of your allotted tests come back positive it’s bad, but if 40% come back positive you need some money.

    ■ A White House deal with the private sector for 80,000 ventilators was up in the air as the government considered the $1 billion price tag.

seems a little exorbitant to me, typical of the medical industry....

Ran out of eggs, bread, butter, milk, and beer, the essentials, so I headed to town day before yesterday.

Having seen what was going on there, called the GF yesterday morning and we went for a motorcycle ride of about 175 miles, stopped at a park for picnic lunch.

As far as I can tell from these casual observations, assuming things are going about like this elsewhere, there was a LOT more "social distancing" when people were just going to work everyday.

In further news; it seems that in Jackson TN a rumor has started that the police, "PO-PO" as they are referred to by the most extremely ignorant, are not going to arrest anyone, no matter what they do, because "they don't want anymore prisoners". Car thefts, home burglaries and invasions are climbing as the eternally ignorant take advantage of their fellow citizens.

Gosh, I hope the "PO-PO" are understanding when I burn one of these SOB's down. I guess that for this post I'll just sign off "Thankful for the 2nd amendment".

    Y'all stay safe now, y'hear?

We are currently under shelter in place. Just saw these guys. Apparently it is essential to get this new restaurant build so they can do takeout only. I saw many lawn companies out cutting grass also and people out and about in general just not gathering.

The gov't should invoke emergency powers, temporarily nationalize the providers. Gouging is illegal, I thought; they come down hard on individuals that price gouge hand sanitizer.

@silvermouse, they crack down on "individuals" who are price gouging. Corporations are cash cows for the elected criminals. Curtailing their ability to overcharge cuts into the ol' political retirement fund. Can you say kickback??

Tonight CNN is giving Joe Biden an hour on national television to rip apart our president. Kinda seems like a free hour of political messages for the Democrats.

And who are they ripping for the other 23 hours?

As pandemics go, preventable would be best, cure-able next best, but treatable is third best. Surely a helluva lot better than hopefully delay-able, which is all we're doing now. I read about a couple more studies with fabulous results and from various countries since I posted this. Are they elaborate ten-year carefully controlled large study group FDA approved billion dollar drug trials? Who gives a rabbit's fart in a blizzard. I'll take effective. An effective treatment would be a game changer. From what I read last night, this thing may even be cure-able.

    Fingers crossed.

There's also hope that plasma from people who've recovered might be able to help patients in serious shape:

OOps, Should've actually done the math, I was thinking more like 125K each, which is robbery. $12,500 is reasonable.

If we can delay the spike of infections , we might not need that many ventilators ... the goal isn’t to stop the virus ... the goal is slow the rise of cases , so that there will be resources to manage it... mortality in Italy was due not only to COVID, but due to being overwhelmed in the highest level of care (which is why everyone is harping in ventilators) ... but those machines are one part of the solution... you need beds, manpower , meds...
If we can do a good enough job delaying it ... providers could meet the needs of the ill until we get herd immunity or a good vaccine.

I read an online article yesterday, can't remember the source but something on the MSN news feed, about how Sweden is handling this whole thing.

Instead of draconian authoritarian threats of punishment and issuing grandiose edicts and border closings, they're simply educating the population on sanitary measures, distancing etc., and otherwise not skrewing with business or private lives. They did close the schools.

Included in the article was a comparison of rate of infection and morbidity with their closest neighbors, Norway, Denmark and Finland, I believe.

And...it turns out that their rates are about the same. They are reporting about a 98% compliance rate, which I believe is probably much higher than ours, an incidence of infection about the same as their neighbor states, and they haven't torpedoed their economy to get these results.

Of course, they're Swedes, a polite and well educated fun-loving Germanic/Nordic tribe that bases most of it's social interaction on principals of cooperation. Here we call those kinds of people socialists and stick our fingers in our ears whenever we feel they are about to offer their solutions to ongoing problems. I can almost hear the hue and cry before even posting this.

I'm not advocating Socialism, before the torches and pitchforks come out, and we're not Swedes, a fairly homogeneous people. But the pandemic is a social problem as much as it is a scientific problem. Science deals with absolutes.

If we can absolutely keep everyone from having contact with anyone, no one will be infected. So science tells us. The socialized approach deals more with probabilities, which is probably a more realistic way of managing social problems. Capitalism thrives for the general population with social cooperation.

Yes, it will still thrive for the Uber Elite, no matter what, but might we not wish for better results for everyone? After all, the Uber Elite are in no danger of running out of food, supplies, toilet paper, beer, cigars and such. I think that when the 15 days is up, it should be time to get back to the business of being active, ordinary, ornery Americans in the land of the free and the home of the brave. We're just not cut out for cowering in our caves and hiding from the world.

At least, not all of us.

What about all these businesses, like grocery stores that aren't providing procedures for their workers?
    Simple things like gloves?
They put their people and customers at risk.
