Won't be surprised if I lose power tonight. It's an unnerving sound having wind blow against your house like this, and the worst is expected in about 2 hours as the wind and storms move into my area.

Winds were over 60 mph last night. Fence blew down and a neighbor's tree lost a large branch that is now leaning against my shop.

Lucky break it wasn't the whole tree I guess. As for the fence you now have a better view of the trains! Did the power go down in your neighborhood?

@silvermouse We never lost power, oddly enough, though many of the towns around us did. The train tracks are unused, but I was able to repair the fence well enough to last the rest of winter. In the spring we will likely install chain link fencing or something similar. The tree branch will be a good excuse to fire up the chainsaw and have some fun. I might even get a few good chunks to implement is some upcoming homemade furniture projects I have on my list.

Our garlic that I planted six weeks ago six inches deep with six inches of mulch is now sprouted and coming up. Supposed to be 60 degrees on Christmas. The plants need time to sleep.

It’s just ugly. Freezing rain, ice, snow melt….power lines dropping all over. Local elect board is showing 141 outages with 14000+ customers out of service. Oil lamps are out, water jugs are filled, woodstove’s idling…no worries.

Finally quit raining. It’s 25 miles home to work…took an hour and a half this morning. Had to clear half a spruce tree that snapped off from the driveway and a bunch of bent over aspen from the road before I got to pavement. And that has 3/4 inch of pure ice on it. Gonna be a fun few weeks….temps are dropping back down.

Makes for an entertaining commute with all these newbie yahoos from down south. There’s an inordinate number of TX, FL, GA & AL plates up here this year. Most can be found on the rear end of high-dollar, go fast, blacked out windowed cars sticking out of the ditches…
