I just got caught up on a few months worth of these profound thoughts and I’m sick of you all.
And I thought it was worth sharing. So, I posted it in the great quotes thread. Annoying, isn’t it?
Clearly the appeal from an American statesman is much greater than that from Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus. I thought it was a funny juxtaposition.

Hopefully, it isn't something we can't work through. Please reach out if you need anything, Mike-Bob.
How's that for annoying? :-)

My Dad took Bertrand Russell's philosophy class at Northwestern many years ago, came away believing that he himself was an atheist, but that kids should be raised in church nonetheless. Net effect on our family was that it was many years before Dad declared himself to be a Christian, although he remained active in the church.
The whole thing pissed Mom off terribly. I learned all this when Mom saw me reading Bertrand Russell's "Why I am not a Christian". I had never known this until after my Dad was gone.
Dad didn't know Voltaire, though.
we need to ban the books of all philosophers who harbor doubt I guess.
That would be, wait for it, all philosophers.

This one speaks to me quite clearly, and fits me to a T.
What is the context? It sounds like he is saying we should not be certain of anything. Yet, society would not function without certainty.

I certainly am.

Dang, I thought that was L. Ron Hubbard
I quoted Randy Wayne White quoting Orwell. Whoever, but the quote rings true.
