I think you're very smart. I think you knew what you were doing when you posted it. If it were meant to have been a joke, I don't think you would've posted it in the political discussion...... discussion thread. I don't think you posted it as some sort of joke where everyone would understand it came from a satirical website either. If it were to be a joke, you would've posted where it came from. I think this is exactly the type of thing we talk about all the time, where you can just report something and people will believe it as fact. Maybe it's just easier to be more tolerant at a younger age, maybe it's a generational thing. I don't know.

I think Peter definitely posted this as a joke, and assumed people had average intelligence and could realize it was a joke. I've posted meme's or other forms of humor in here instead of other threads to keep politics out of the way of the people who don't want to see that, since it's so divisive. I'd imagine he was doing the same thing.

I think the tolerance point you bring up is interesting, since you seem to struggle with that at times. Are you calling yourself old?

Yes I'm old, and I wear pants. But I'm no lady. Can you give me an example where I've ever been intolerant of anybody's opinion? Or is this just your opinion?

Or is this just a "pot-shot" "people had average intelligence" ?? 😳 That's sneaky good, really good.... attacking at the man.... attaboy!

Would you describe this as tolerant, or intolerant, if you had to pick? And for the record, you immediately knew that what Peter posted was satire as soon as you read it, since you went and looked it up due to how outrageous it was. I believe everyone else did also, because I don't think you or anyone else was dumb enough to believe that was real. I wasn't calling you stupid, I was calling you smart.

Tolerant. As you're the one who posted it. I just pointed it out. Still standing behind that I like it! So I guess that is tolerance.

Yes, I did in fact post that you and everyone else on here had above average intelligence.

That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me in this thread. I'm touched.

Could just be me, but I think requesting a link to a parody post that's obviously parody, is the same as making coffee cups say "caution, coffee is hot". If you think people could read that post and think that she really said that, then I guess we just don't view people the same?

Don't make me guess; what's your point?

one solid point would be post a satirical article regarding a fake Harris speaking tour right after we all just watched in real time Trump's dementia riddled speech at the UN.

That's a special set of blinders you're wearing there Peter..

Fair enough. I will make sure to include a satire disclaimer.

Going forward, you're saying that every time I post anything derogatory of the Left, I need to balance it out with a dig on the Right too. Got it.

Or, you could state why the satire was unwarranted and inaccurate. Have fun telling us what good job Kamala did and/or is doing with her book.

not at all, I am saying context matters ''hey here's some satire of Kamala saying stupid **** in fake articles' comes off as tone deaf when we literary have recent video of Trump saying stupid **** on a world stage.

I think there's a difference. AKA you are reaching when your satire ignores reality..

I mean JFC Trump literally took credit for bringing peace to two countries that were never actually at war with each other and you want to talk about Kamala's book?

Maybe I just believe that nonsense shouldn't be posted out there as fact or just posting something without the source is dishonest. Was I wrong in calling out the post? No, and to some degree you know that. But the intolerance part, that's baseless. I don't care what anybody's beliefs are. I've always said if you have formed the thought or opinion on your own and come to some sort of conclusion that you believe deeply in the fiber of your being, you should follow it. I think today's society looks at the media, social media maybe more so, and thinks ....YEAH! I believe what that person with 1 million followers says so it's gotta be true!!! They feel the same way I do!!!" We don't think for ourselves anymore, that's too tiresome. It's much easier to have our favorite social media member I think for us. @CalvinAndHobo , you are somebody who likes to wax intellectual, you don't feel the same way about the current state of our political climate thinking for us?

    @Vision
You were not tolerant of Ian's opinion about your religion.

I'm not a religious person but I'm starting to think people who said "this country started going to hell when they took god out of schools" are correct.

I probably should not respond this at this time of night after a day like today. The change in the the law stated that a teacher could no longer lead a prayer. Personally I have no problem with that. It never changed the fact that a teacher could say something like.....In two minutes we will begin the test, you can say a prayer or relax, just get ready to begin. Now the same folks would be fighting in the the streets if the govt. came for tv's or compters. For folks that believe in God, nobody can remove him from school.

I 100% disagree that it is lack of religion that caused this country to go to ****.

It started with Reagan removing the “Fairness Doctrine” from network news which required networks to present opposing viewpoints on controversial topics. Followed by the rise of the internet where without the regulation to present both sides of a debate it was easy for misinformation, deliberate or otherwise to go unchecked.

This has radicalized too many people too willing to believe a lie rather than be confronted with facts.

We now live in a society where so called Christians have labeled empathy a sin because misinformation controls people regardless of what Christ actually stood for.

I think this has been going on since some time before Constantine. Not arguing your point, but this isn't a new thing.

Understood, but the point is religion doesn't fix anything if it's easy to change the narrative of what that religion stands for, which through misinformation and manipulation is easier than ever these days..

Oh yes, you're right about that. No doubt. It's been happening for a long time, but is much easier now, absolutely.

I also sympathize with the idea of a "moment of silence" in schools, though. Not that you're arguing against that, I'm just bringing it up.

I remember being involved in a conversation where the person who was so "offended" by the idea of a moment of silence argued: "But, the children might use that time for prayer!", as if there was something wrong with that. So what? As long as they're able to maintain silence for a minute, there's a mental discipline there. No phone, no internet, no TV, no whispers, just to be quiet for one minute. Meditate, pray, daydream, I don't care, just still the mind.

Speaking of mass hysteria, here's something to think about

Agree or disagree, it's still something to think about.

I've said before, I've never been a Trump fan. I opined many times that as a registered Republican I wished that the party had chosen someone else, or that the Democrats could come up with a qualified candidate that could lead the country in a productive way. They couldn't, or didn't, in my opinion.

It seems to me that we've been largely brainwashed into believing that the President must either be a Savior or a Scapegoat, and that any and everything that went before is now on his or her shoulders. I suppose it is, in some way, but maybe our expectations are too high? Or low? Or skewed?

The last Republican candidate that really impressed me was John Kasich, but he didn't get past the primaries. The last Democrat that really impressed me was Howard Dean, but the Clintonistas torpedoed him.

I'm rambling, going to shut up now and smoke a very old cigar.

if you have listened to Trump speak and felt he speaks for you than your filter is already beyond understanding what's actually wrong with this country.

The wealthy purchased the USA when Citizens United passed. Politicians have always been for sale. Trump just cut out the middle man.

Oh, don't put words in my mouth, I don't think he speaks for me. Never said that, just that he's less dangerous than the other side. As I said, the last Republican candidate that I felt might speak for me was John Kasich, I did say that, didn't I? Yes, or that was the meaning anyway.

For the record, I would happily vote for any candidate regardless of party that demonstrates the common sense, ability, and integrity to run the country, but I haven't seen any lately. Also, I didn't vote for Trump, in case anyone is assuming that. I've voted pretty much whoever the Libertarians put up for about 30 years now.

    Protest vote.
