I wish I had more time to workout. Over the summers when I was in college all I would do is work and then hit the gym for about 2 hrs everyday. I'm working on buying some basic equipment for my house then I can get more resistance training in
My health kick is hiking. I am planning on hiking Mt. LeConte in Gatlinburg in September. I am down from 327 in August 0f 2015 to 259 in August of 2016. I still have a ways to go. I would like to get to 220. I found out that small goals and motivation are necessary. I was recently sidetracked from hiking because of a small injury from a fall in the mud. Doing better and getting back on the trail. What ever you do for exercise or diet, the main thing is consistency. Love this discussion!!!
Welcome @TNBigfoot68. Congrats on losing 60 plus pounds. You are in my neck of the woods maybe? I'm in Murfreesboro. Where you at? How did you find this forum?
Thanks, Glad to be here. I responded earlier, but it never posted. Found this forum while checking out the Cigars and making a wish list, lol I am from the south-west corner of Williamson County @Bob_Luken.
Glad you're here @TNBigfoot68. We should meet up sometime for herf. I've been wanting to check out the B&Ms in Franklin. Now I have even more reason to do so. Stick with us here on the forum. Great group of guys here. Also get on the V-herf with us. It's a video conference thing for cigar lovers.
I used to be in shape, now....well I'm not. I can lose it if I cut out alcohol, pizza, chips etc.. But I find my will to live drops dramatically. In the next few months I need to get my knee replaced. I'm having a difficult time finding appropriate exercises that will work for my crumbling infrastructure due really bad arthritis. Any suggestions?
Sounds like a plan @Bob_Luken I have been wanting to check out one of the B&Ms off Caruthers/Bakers Bridge near the Cool Springs Mall.
@TNBigfoot68 I have been to one of those shops about five years ago. I can't remember which one but, I remember exactly what I smoked. (RP Vintage 2003)
If you think you can go tonight, send me a PM or, leave me an answer here. So far my night is free.
@Bob_Luk I cant do it tonight, I have plans with the family, taking my son to see Pet's Dragon. Question, if you had your own dragon would you need a match or lighter to light your gars? LOL!!!!

Talk to a physical therapist about pre surgery exercises. It is my understanding that if you start now on building that areas condition, the rehabilitation after surgery will go much better. I know there is a professional PT member on here but can't remember who it is. Good luck Jim.
Friends don't let good friends smoke cheap cigars.
@Bigshizza I am eat up with Arthritis and have had 2 back surgeries. One thing that I was encouraged to do was walk. I took it to another level and started hiking. I have had many set-backs and pain, but I have kept up when I can. 3 Years ago I hiked 14 miles Round Trip to the top of Mt. LeConte, against my Dr's wishes, lol. I guess I am lucky. With walking you control your pace, form, and location. I liked soft trails in the beginning for my back until I built up resistance to rougher surfaces. This morning I walked / hiked 5 miles in 1 hour and 13 minutes in a local park, on a clay road/trail. . A few years ago I sought the help of a good physical therapist that helped me find a walking posture I could maintain to minimize the pain in my back. Everyday, there is pain, it just comes down to what can you maintain, and put up with. Everyone is different. My advice is when you find it, you will know what the right exercise is. You might need to take days off. I walk 3 days a week. No more so that my back can recover between Hikes!
@Bigshizza hey Jim I'm sorry to hear about the arthritis but I can very much relate. Most know that I am only 28 years old but what many may not know is that the multiple degenerative genetic conditions I have are forms of arthritis which means I already have arthritis of a man in his 60's+. Low impact cardio is so important and helpful for me, as my doctor says "motion is lotion" for the joints and body. If you can swimming or cycling is someone the very best things you can do and is tremendous for the cardio as well as full body, swimming especially. I hope this finds you well and hope that it helps you as well too my friend

"When walking in open territory bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask them to stop. If they do not stop, destroy them."
Sorry to hear of that Jim. I had arthritis buildup in my shoulder AC joint. Hurt for years but last year was the last straw. It was keeping me awake at night. Doc recommend surgery to go on and clean out the joint. Painful recovery but now the shoulder feels great. Not sure if that's any kind of option for you but if it is, it may well be worth it as it was in my case.
At everybody else: we all know that receiving bombs helps ease knee pain...... Hint hint. LOL. It's been a while since I sent anything out west.......
How do you like my profile pic Taborski? @matkn293
I think @Unicorn was the PT specialist. Not sure if she lurks at all yet. Maybe @Trident could track her down
Team O'Donnell FTW!

I also have osteoarthritis from farm work and now from 12 hour days at the jeweler's bench. You'll be glad when you have your knee back to working shape, had several friends go that route and happy they did. The joint replacements have improved considerably in the last decade.
I have just been walking 20-30 minutes a day (most days), fat guy pace sometimes then faster when I feel it, have lost 25 lb in 3 months and can fit in my clothes again, losing that office job is going to be the best thing to ever happen to me
how is everyone doing with their fitness goals this week? I will not get to do all my scheduled hikes, but planning on a 9 mile hike Saturday. Waist size is down but weight is the same. Not a bad week
On a serious note, after I hike Mt LeConte I want to celebrate with a great Cigar. Would appreciate suggestions!
@Bob_Luken that sounds like an excellent choice. The "tight-wad" side of my nature about gasped when I saw the $15 single stick price, lol. I'll pay it for a good cigar, I'll just sulk for a few days, lol!

At any given time the urge to sing "In The Jungle" is just a whim away... A whim away... A whim away...
