I saw spice infused charcoal at the store yesterday (cummin, lemon pepper, etc) and I thought why would buy infused coals over just adding the actual spice? The stuff was EXPENSIVE also!

It really makes no sense to me. If you’re using the charcoal properly any kind of infused anything will be burnt out of it before you begin cooking. I will sometimes smolder spices on a plate when I’m grilling fish so that the spices don’t overpower it. I’m sure the charcoal smells nice while it’s burning down but once it gets to cooking temp anything like that should be gone….unless it’s just chemicals and why would you want that in the first place?
