“It has been a source of great pain to me to have met with so many among [my] opponents who had not the liberality to distinguish between political and social opposition; who transferred at once to the person, the hatred they bore to his political opinions.” —Thomas Jefferson (1808)
Yep. Remember back in 1984 when there were newspaper and magazine articles all year long about how "George Orwell was wrong". The talking heads all agreed, Orwell had been "proved wrong" because the future he envisioned hadn't manifested itself completely yet.
It has now.

Unfortunately it doesn't help, Rodger. Facial recognition in stores, 'puters in cars that track how fast you are driving, monitors everywhere. People are becoming more and more dependent on these things and in the process losing the ability to even do simple math, remember what they have read, spell correctly, navigate without gps, value reason over belief. The list goes on but you know the kettle of fish we have gotten ourselves into.

A robot operating with a popular Internet-based artificial intelligence system consistently gravitates to men over women, white people over people of color, and jumps to conclusions about peoples' jobs after a glance at their face. The work is believed to be the first to show that robots loaded with an accepted and widely-used model operate with significant gender and racial biases.

Cruise’s Robot Car Outages Are Jamming Up San Francisco
In a series of incidents, the GM subsidiary lost contact with its autonomous vehicles, leaving them frozen in traffic and trapping human drivers.
The Cruise vehicles that trapped Hu weren’t the only autonomous cars holding up traffic in San Francisco that night. Internal messages seen by WIRED show that nearly 60 vehicles were disabled across the city over a 90-minute period after they lost touch with a Cruise server. As many as 20 cars, some of them halted in crosswalks, created a jam in the city’s downtown in an incident first reported by the San Francisco Examiner and detailed in photos posted to Reddit.

been thinking this morning about the ways the cyber world has invaded my (our) life. You can't even make a doctors' appointment without Facebook potentially getting a hold of it. For instance:
