Schiff made some compelling arguments in his closing remarks.  The most compelling of which is that the House power of impeachment is indeed the heart of the checks-and-balances on the Presidency.  While I still think that the House should have expended more effort to provide their proofs, we're at the point where documentation that either proves or disproves all these allegations needs to be brought out.

It all comes down the a question of intent, I think.  Does, or did, Trump truly believe that the Bidens were involved in some shady scheme?  The Democrats keep referring to it as "the discredited theory", but was there something else?  Did Trump utilize private resources because he didn't trust the agencies that cleared the Bidens?

It will be interesting to see what comes next.

    No agencies cleared the Bidens.
Joe bragged on video about squashing the investigation.
    Common sense provides the motive.

As for his "compelling arguments", the Constitution specifies impeachment for one of four reasons: bribery, treason, high crimes, or misdemeanors. Neither of their articles of impeachment qualifies as any of the four. They don't like his policies and they don't trust the voters to throw him out. That's Schiff's argument.

Of course, they hate the jackass... That doesn't help.

He could be the nicest, smartest person in the world and they'd still hate him.  He's neither a politician nor a socialist.

    Agreed, absolutely.

That's whats been most upsetting to me about this whole thing so far.  The Democrats assumption of guilt is at the heart of this thing, and that's just plain wrong.  That's why I pointed out that their whole argument rests on proof of intent.  I don't think they can do it, they certainly haven't yet.  Re-read my posts above, including the second paragraph, and this should become clear.

The reason I call Schiff's argument "compelling", however, is the the House has indeed impeached the President.  Right or wrong, that's what's happened and it is indeed a serious thing.  No matter how prejudicial or political it seems to be, and probably is.  And the idea of a President who can simply deny cooperation with the proceedings is indeed a dangerous precedent.  However, there is also the 5th amendment, and the very good reasons for its existence.  A person cannot be compelled to provide proof evidence.  Many exceptions exist these days, however, for instance urinalysis for drug testing.  Everyone seems OK with violating this principle for that.

Thus, it will be interesting, to me anyway, to see what comes next.

I put your quote above in bold print only to differentiate it from mine, not to emphasize anything.

Um uh......they don't like Trump for simple dislike.
They hate Trump because he kept the anointed one out of the WH. Signed sealed and not delivered. The most corrupt candidate in my memory.
And why doesn't anyone remember it was clinton that first mentioned a lot of the players when "she" introduced the first round of excuses for losing.
So far there seems to be a lot more proof that foot in mouth and son had a lot more to do with Burisma then anyone knew.
Then there's the not so small problem of shitf and the "whistleblowers" relationship with each other and Burisma.
Other then he is a complete idiot Jabba The Hutt has not been connected to anyone. Will that change?

We do agree then.  I was on the way back from saying fairwell to an old friend.  We sipped whiskey and smoked a cigar in his honor, then his ashes were shot from a canon.
Anyways I apologize for not comprehending what you wrote and though you meant Trump had to prove innocence.

Goes to show I need to slow down tonight

@jd50ae , I always have fun trying to figure out the characters in your posts.  I'm stuck on "Jabba the Hut" though.  I think it's probably Nadler?

And yes, The Anointed Ones failure to capture the prize is certainly one of the top reasons.  I remember going to bed on election night thinking:  "Well crap.  I'm going to wake up in the morning to hear that Hillary is our new Commander in Chief.  I'm glad I'm not in the Army anymore, no telling where she's going to sacrifice lives to further her agenda next."

    Imagine my surprise.   :)

@Amos_Umwhat       Yea, Nadless I believe in this point in time I believe he is nothing but a puppet. I also believe chuckie(where is the camera)is pulling a lot of puppet strings.
Went to bed with billary winning, cussing and crying. Woke up to the words Trump won.
Went from a cheap drunk to a very enjoyable Glenmorangie Nectar D'OR.

Am also of the opinion that the demigods took so long to proceed is that they had to hire enough writers for shitf's speech. Something had to be done so he wouldn't continue to look so stupid, and such a grotesque liar.

Now it appears that Michael Purpura has just dumped a big bucket of truth over Adam "Pinocchio" Schiff's web of intrigue, revealing it to be rather unsubstantial tissue paper.  Chucky "Geppetto" Schumer must be dreading the inevitable flush.

Patrick Philbin did an admirable job of revealing the House's denial of President Trumps legal rights to be little more than politically motivated abuse of power for political gain by the House Democrats.  Now the former Florida prosecutor is revealing the real connections of the Bidens in this whole affair.

Nancy "Wicked Witch of the West" Pelosi must be screaming at her flying monkeys like a banshee by now.

    I don't know, but I hope.
The demons have spent so much time and TAXPAYER MONEY making things up as they go along, outright lying, phony conspiracies, being proven wrong at every turn, bending and twisting The Constitution every chance they get, insisting on rules they ignore, accusations against Trump their own members are guilty of, and general disdain for legal tax paying US citizens.
It has to end, but when.....
And most importantly will they ever be brought to justice, including court appearances and hopefully jail time.
Even with the phony impeachment, that started before the election results were in, why hasn't the bunch of them had their finances been looked at.

One big difference between the House Managers and the Presidents legal team; lack of redundancy.  The House team each got up and after expending their lungfuls of balloon juice, the next one got up and grandstanded the same talking points over and over again.  The Presidents team has simply dismantled their oppositions arguments in methodical fashion.

Y'all aren't watching the same proceedings as me, I guess.  All I'm seeing is, "Trump did exactly what you said, but it doesn't matter, even if it's illegal or simply unethical, because he's the prez and y'know, checks and balances don't apply.  Well not when it's the Trump!  And Biden's bad.  So's Hillary, (we've been repeating it for 4 years of irrelevancy, so why stop now?) Why don't you investigate them while you're at it, because, y'know, two wrongs and all or something."

Frankly, I don't have any respect for the proceedings at all.  There's a whole lot of conflict of interest stuff I think could have played a role, but the house didn't bring it in (probably because it opens a whole can of worms for all them, too.)  Everything I hear tells me the only question should be, are these offenses impeachable or not.  The house thought so.  The Senate doesn't seem interested in answering that question, and it doesn't really seem like they want to render an honest assessment of the evidence, either.  But then again, neither does this thread.

I will say, the Dems did look a bit like clowns at times when presenting their case.

Guessing you missed Derschowitz, who concentrated on whether the offenses are impeachable or not and the background on all the Constitutional law and precedents, as well as the history of those precedents and the known opinions of the people who wrote them into the Constitution.  I've watched a little of it on TV, when it was on broadcast, but found that the brainwashing messages on the right side of the screen were distracting.  So, I just listened on the radio.  No distractions.

I should note that Derschowitz prefaced his remarks by expressing his dislike for Trump, as have I, and admitting his vote for Hillary, which I did NOT do.  He took the Classical Liberal approach, in the original sense of the term, and concluded that there is nothing impeachable in the House Committees reporting.

He also went on to list the presidents whom Congress has accused of Abuse of Power.  An abbreviated list includes:  George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Van Buren, James Polk, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, William J. Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, among others.

Had the House Committee been willing to do their homework, they probably still wouldn't have been able to pull it off.  At least in part because their whole case is built on assumptions, partial truths, and a few downright lies.  The Presidents legal team has done their homework and filled in a lot of the empty spaces and dispelled much of the speculative nonsense that we heard during the House Managers loquacious diatribes.

Maybe we have been hearing different proceedings.
