Hopping up on my soapbox for a moment, I've long held that human beings, Americans in particular, hate freedom. Oh we each want our individual freedom to do whatever it is that we want to do, but couldn't care less about the other fellow.
Just think about how politicians get votes. "I'm gonna lock 'em up and throw away the keys" has been a popular promise. "As long as they're not locking up me they've got my vote", we think. It's always someone else's freedom. It's always in the name of public safety or morals. Pee in this cup. Outlaw guns. Outlaw tobacco. Outlaw these plants, but not those plants. You can take these drugs, but not those drugs, unless we tell you that you can, but only for so long, and if anyone else gets ahold of them we're blaming you. And them. It's not up to you to decide whether or not you can have an abortion. Keep those people from voting, they won't vote the way I want them to. You work for us, so we tell you what you can do on your off time, like any other slave. Your phone call may be monitored. You can't buy that on Sunday. You two can't get married. You can't own that breed of dog in this town. Your boss can watch you, no matter WHAT you're doing.
At any rate, the point of this rant is that most of the people who really want and love freedom are pretty much those who don't have it. We espouse high ideals of freedom, when we don't have it. Once obtained, we start chipping away at it. A vicious cycle.
The thing is, in the modern era it becomes increasingly possible for those in power to create a state of constant surveillance, constant monitoring, constant intervention to retain power. I fear every incremental step in this process. No matter how small. I guess I'm just crazy.
OK.
Crazy rant over.
Carry on.

Apparently, they have to go even further crazy. Stores here are now requiring customers to wear face masks to enter. A bit ridiculous.

I guess the curve has been flattened; I had to go to Page 2 of the forum to find this thread. Should've left it there too, yes?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but when this whole virus lockdown started weren't we being told that it was going to be for 2 weeks, to give the medical community a chance to ramp up for the coming onslaught?
And what has happened?
We're now planning for 2 months in most places, and the medical community has laid off huge numbers of workers.
Am I missing some piece of this puzzle?

Yes. You are missing the thirst. The insatiable thirst for power.

I just don't understand why wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces during a pandemic is so difficult.

I have to laugh watching people driving in their car, alone, with a mask on. Kind of like sleeping alone with a condom.

I saw that on the News this morning. I wonder how many others the shooter has killed for insignificant things? Sometimes I think that those kinds of criminals should be tested for Organ Donor compatibility, harvest to begin when testing is completed.

A LOT of Americans really really HATE freedom. Especially everyone else's.

Thanks for the link, @webmost, this hasn't been fun so far and it looks like it won't be fun later.

A Russian paramedic who complained about being forced to work after testing positive for COVID-19 was in critical condition after falling from a hospital window in western Russia, according to multiple media reports. In the last two weeks, two other health care workers who challenged Russian medical authorities fell from windows to their deaths.

What a remarkable coincidence.
Or not.

55 cases in my small town and of those 11 have died; 20% is bad odds. Lot of us old codgers hereabouts.
