@WaterNerd Forcing people to get tested and issuing a complete shutdown because not enough are getting tested is criminal in my opinion.

Here's what's going on here in So. Calif. This is BS"The county reached the positivity rate that will allow it to move to the red tier (7.8%), but the case rate remains higher than the state's requirement, RUHS officials said. Last week, the state began adjusting the case rate higher for counties that are not meeting the required daily average testing volume, which brought Riverside County's case rate from 7.4 to 8.6, according to the RUHS."
This will put us back to lvl 0 (complete shut-down) because not enough people are getting tested. I think our governor wants to bankrupt the state

And they will blame it on Trump for not doing enough

The california commiecrats have been bankrupting the state for decades. I'd like to the federal government stop sending bailout money to these states.

Bankrupt people are so much easier to rule, until they're not.

NAS and NAM Presidents Alarmed By Political Interference in Science Amid Pandemic
Statement | September 24, 2020
As advisers to the nation on all matters of science, medicine, and public health, we are compelled to underscore the value of science-based decision-making at all levels of government. Our nation is at a critical time in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic with important decisions ahead of us, especially concerning the efficacy and safety of vaccines. Policymaking must be informed by the best available evidence without it being distorted, concealed, or otherwise deliberately miscommunicated. We find ongoing reports and incidents of the politicization of science, particularly the overriding of evidence and advice from public health officials and derision of government scientists, to be alarming. It undermines the credibility of public health agencies and the public’s confidence in them when we need it most. Ending the pandemic will require decision-making that is not only based on science but also sufficiently transparent to ensure public trust in, and adherence to, sound public-health instructions. Any efforts to discredit the best science and scientists threaten the health and welfare of us all.Marcia McNutt

Says who? Who authorized you to advise?
I'm still wondering who authorized Fauci to help fund a lab in Wuhan!
Possibly a good idea at the time... how did that turn out?
Or who was it said we should listen to WHO, for that matter.Simply being an intellectual authority does not confer political authority. Right or wrong, that's wrong. We, not a university, confer authority by vote. Absolute monarchs with cardinals in their ears have been wrong as often as anyone else.
Listening to Winnie Churchill on YouTube just now. If I live long enough, I should re-read his wonderful 6 volume history of WWII, in which he recounts a manifold series of epic events whereon the fate of humanity literally hinged on what he decided never solely in deference to any experts. Many times he was right, sometimes wrong, sometimes likely right but sabotaged by unforeseeable events. Some policies eased through through by suasion, others impelled forward by determination. All despite what was probably the direst calamity ever to face civilization. The best part of his history is the inclusion of thousands upon thousands of minutes and memos and reports in the appendices. Really gives you an insight into how strenuous, relentless, circumstantial, meticulous, as well as both deep and expansive, his effort was.
Chairing a scientific society is trivial compared to shouldering the weight of a nation.
Anyhoo... got carried away just now over Winnie. Love the guy.

Oh, super.
A recent genetic association study1 identified a gene cluster on chromosome 3 as a risk locus for respiratory failure upon SARS-CoV-2 infection. A new study2 comprising 3,199 hospitalized COVID-19 patients and controls finds that this is the major genetic risk factor for severe SARS-CoV-2 infection and hospitalization (COVID-19 Host Genetics Initiative). Here, we show that the risk is conferred by a genomic segment of ~50 kb that is inherited from Neanderthals and is carried by ~50% of people in South Asia and ~16% of people in Europe today.
