I stay quiet on vHerf all the time. Sometimes I join in the conversation, but plenty of times I don't. It's nice to be among friends, even if I have nothing to add to the conversation. Besides, they often bore me, but I don't give them any crap about it.
Politics has its place but has be devisive since it’s inception.

Personally, I find it an enhancement. Yes, it can be and often is divisive, but that is a reflection of our society. If people can't handle it, they should remove themselves from the conversation, NOT remove the conversation from the forum.
We have, here, an extremely eclectic group of people. People of all ages and occupations, and a wide variety of beliefs, and both genders. Or more, if that's what trips your triggers. All of us bound together by a hobby that is under fire by some well funded extremists who get their jollies by forcing their views on others. Especially if that force doesn't actually affect anything in their own lives.
All of that above means that we are a rare example of the kind of intellectual cross-pollination of ideas that was inherent to our "Great Experiment" of a democratic republic. We are the vestiges of what truly made America great. Yes, it's messy, and sometimes we get our little feelings hurt, but it's well worth it. At least, it is for me.
BTW, I have no earthly idea where my social security card, issued in '72 or '73 if I recall, might be at this time. My DD214 has served that purpose a few times, though, and my Driver's License and Voter Registration card have been required every time I vote. Even though the lady at the polls is my neighbor, and knows who I am on sight.

Steve, appreciate your sincere words, but oblige me. Hypothetically, If I were an emotional type personality, I could pick and choose certain things you said, albeit sincere to you, out of context, take it personally, etc etc and turn it into something, unintentional by yourself, negative, condescending or malicious. My point is words on a forum, like life, are subjective to the individual receiving or perceiving them. I’ve been around the forum long enough to get to know you and can distinguish what you’re trying to convey. And I agree with what you wrote.
I believe that no subject matter should be off limits. I guess where I draw the proverbial line in cordial conversation discourse is when the thread(s) gets personal (to whomever) and name calling or negative comments ensue all in the name of proving one is more correct than another based off their beliefs or intel sources.
Personally, I could give two phucks, I’m not easily offended nor do I take any subject matter too seriously. My preference for conversational discourse is always face to face vs words on paper, so to speak.

I have never been asked for an ID at the polling site. My name and street address get checked against the printout though.
That's interesting. I don't get to get to the printout until I've shown ID to Mrs. Mayse, whose house I can see from my yard, whose husband has helped me shovel the ditch and remove some trees. I've never challenged it with "you know me" or anything, since when I walk in the door she say's "Hi, Steve".
So, the whole flap seems silly to me. It's just like showing ID when I buy alcohol. Nearing 70, bald head and white whiskers, I have to show my ID to the 18 year old in order to purchase. So, asking for ID to vote doesn't seem too inconvenient a request in a country that advertises "One person = One vote" all over the world.
I will, however, be upset and refuse to cooperate in the near future when all this builds to the point that the gummint starts demanding that we all be micro-chipped. Shouldn't be too long now.

I noticed at the beginning of this clip Bruce Springsteen said "Kamala" (Ka-MALLA) with emphasis on the second syllable, the wrong way, bad way, the race it's way, but I'm sure he'll get a pass on that.
Also, I noticed the applause was weak and lasted only a few seconds after he says he supports Harris & Walz but next he told them what they really love to hear, and the crowd gives a huge cheer after he tells them he's there to oppose Trump & Vance.

Some people say it incorrectly unintentionally. Others say it incorrectly to be pejorative. The first kind get a pass, and the second kind don't.
Before anyone asks, "how do someone know," the answer is that they don't, and so sometimes intentions are interpreted incorrectly.
I guess I can understand why people mispronounce her name. After all, she has two humps and look like she is as dry as a bone, sort of like the desert animal that the mispronunciation rhymes with. However, If you don't want that to happen to you, then learn the name and say it correctly. It's not like she's an obscure figure...
A name is the only thing that you own which nobody can ever take away, and so people take pronouncing them seriously.
