Did we really need this? Lol

April Fool’s Day has long since passed, but Asylum has a cigar created for the occasion.

The Asylum April Fools is a 9 x 90 cigar that started as an April Fool’s Day joke but is now taking shape as an actual cigar. It will be a Honduran puro made at The CLE Factory in Danlí, Honduras. The company hasn’t finalized pricing for the cigar but says that it will be a limited release.

Asylum made its name as a company known for 7 x 70s at a time when most manufacturers will just starting to introduce 60 ring gauge cigars. The company also sells 80 ring gauge cigars, including an 8 x 80. While this is unlikely to be the first 9 x 90 cigar ever sold, it seems like it will be the first to be sold by a major, nationally distributed brand.

It is scheduled to debut sometime in Q3 2021.

Just saw that. My reaction was why, just why? Because we can really should not be an answer for this one.

The blend for Undercrown 10 starts with a Mexican San Andres wrapper, Connecticut Broadleaf binder and Nicaraguan fillers. It will come in four regular production sizes: Toro (6 x 52) $12, Robusto (5 x 50) $11.75, Corona Viva (5 x 43) $10.50, and Corona Doble (7 x 50) $13.50. All come in boxes of 20. There will also be a limited-edition “Factory Floor Edition” which is a 6 x 46 $13.60 lonsdale . This also comes with 20 cigars, but in addition will include a “tobacco leaf library,” meaning a sample of each individual leaf comprising the blend. Lastly, there will be an event only size, the Undercrown 10 Tuani Belicoso (6 x 52). This will only be available at event hosted by Pedro Gomez and will comes in boxes of 2 similar to the Liga Privada “A” and Undercrown Manifesto.

“Undercrown 10 offers smokers an experience of Mexican hot chocolate … naturally sweet with hints of raisin and cacao … waves of intense black pepper … along with notes of sun-dried cherries, espresso, woodiness and earthiness.”

La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate Factory Spokesman, Pedro Gomez

Undercrown is a noble prince of a brand, both humble and loyal, who is now to become a king. The new UC10 expression represents its super-premium platform, sealing the brand’s destiny … as the good king whose brand promise is gratitude for our talented team at La Gran Fabrica. The new UC10 is so incredibly important to Drew Estate that we gave it two slogans, ‘A Decade of Dedication’ and ‘All Dekked Out.’ Add those two slogans to ‘Born on the Factory Floor,’ and the Shakespeare really unfolds.

Jonathan Drew, Drew Estate’s Founder and President

The regular production Undercrown 10’s will ship at the beginning of May. Undercrown 10 Factory Floor Edition will debut in July.

The Pope of Greenwich Village, a 2015 release that was part of Smoke Inn’s Microblend Series, is coming back for a second release.

Today, Drew Estate announced that the 6 x 40 short lancero would be returning on May 27th, launched as part of a virtual event co-hosted by Jonathan Drew and Abe Dababneh, the proprietor of Smoke Inn. Like the original, the 2021 version uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, a Connecticut stalk-cut habano binder, and a filler that includes Brazilian mata fina and Nicaraguan tobaccos.

“Working with Jonathan Drew and the folks at Drew Estate back in 2015 to create the Pope of Greenwich Village was a milestone in Smoke Inn’s history,” said Dababneh in a press release. “It has been a fan favorite. I am elated to see this Smoke Inn Micro Blend return for the public to enjoy!”

The cigar gets its name from a book and a 1984 film of the same name that was set in an Italian neighborhood in New York City. Drew said that like the movie, “Pope is a character study that’s bold and unusual, as the flavor characteristics are enhanced by the smaller ring gauge. The Pope of Greenwich Village is a concept cigar which reminds us that the cigar business is not just business, it’s also a lot of fun.”

The Pope of Greenwich Village is priced at $99.95 for a 10-count pack. Production numbers have not been disclosed, though a spokesperson for the company described it as a limited release. The original cigar was limited to 1,500 packs of 10 cigars.

Halfwheel said 600 boxes in 2016 and 1,200 boxes in 2019 split across the two existing vitolas.

"It will be offered in the same three vitolas as last year’s release:

    Black Label Trading Co. Bishops Blend 2021 Corona Largo (6 1/4 x 46) — $11.50 (Box of 20, $230)
    Black Label Trading Co. Bishops Blend 2021 Robusto (5 x 48) — $11 (Box of 20, $220
    Black Label Trading Co. Bishops Blend 2021 Lancero (7 x 42) — $12 (Box of 12, $144)
The U.S. release of the Corona Largo and Robusto vitolas are limited to 600 boxes each, the Lancero is limited to 400 boxes."

These are popular as hell now, not as much in 16.

Looks like it’s going to line up with the Viaje release. Wait for Cfed to to send an email then keep an eye on SB the next day or two. BnB will most definitely get some, skallywag also. Lee’s shop will probably get some too.
