Ok guys, this has kind of gone by the wayside, but I'm back after some research and I've got some ideas.
Today I went to the cigar shop in Old Town Temecula with Leonard to check it out and see if it is what I had in mind...in a word, it is. It is larger than the other one I was considering with almost 3x the selection, it also offers an outdoor smoking area that is more than adequate should some decide to smoke outside. Also there are more than a few places to eat down there and many shops to be browsed if one is so inclined, no reason why this thing has to be exclusively about cigars.
Another thing we were thinking about was maybe moving the herf from the cigar shop, after closing, down the way to the Pechanga Indian Casino. The reasons are: A) they're open past 7pm, They have a large bar area with nice, plushy accommodations, C) they are smoking friendly, even cigar friendly and D) You don't have to buy any cigars from the casino, so it's BYOC, at least for that leg of the trip.
These are the thoughts now, chime in if you have any input as to why this might not be the best idea or if you can suggest anything more fitting. By the way, I gave the idea of a restaurant some thought but ultimately rejected it due to the fact that a lot of people like to eat outside but are not smoking friendly, so even if smoking is allowed, I don't want to ruin the experience for people who are trying to eat, even if they are whiny and bitchy, they still paid for there food and deserve to enjoy it.
Let me know guys. If this all sounds good we could be talking about sometime within the next few weeks.
What if we just had the whole thing at Pechanga? That way we wouldn't have to worry about finishing a smoke before the shop closed and we can bring all of our own cigars so we have more money to loose on the blackjack tables.

Might be a problem seeing as how I'm underage for booze till May. I'm down to smoke at the shop but I tried entering in a Texas Hold Em tourney and got turned away because of the alcohol being served at the casino. Aside from that, I'm excited to see this thing get started.
Well, that's an option too. I like the idea of starting at the cigar shop mainly because there are cigars to buy there unlike at the casino and because of all the restaurants that are around there, I was figuring that at some point food would become a topic, and there is a lot to choose from in Old Town.
This will be a majority thing, I'm not going to say it's going to be one way and one way only, whatever is most agreeable to the most people is what we'll go with. So with that said, let's hear from the rest of you.
Garen: Did you get turned away at the door, or inside when you tried to enter the tournament? If inside, then all we'd have to do is have you not get carded at all. I don't know, I had thought about that since I knew you weren't 21 yet. Hmm...
i didn't realize pechanga was smoking friendly at all - i usually only go to the poker room i guess where it is a smoke free area. what shop are you talking about in old town temecula? i think i have seen one off of the 15 but not one in that area.
The Olde Towne Cigar Shoppe is the one I'm talking about. I think you're talking about the Zarka Cigar Lounge as that one can be seen from the freeway. Here's a link to the website: Link
And yes, Pechanga is smoking friendly, aside from the non-smoking gaming areas. We were in the bar area and there were some other people smoking cigars as well.
I was thinking of doing it on a Saturday, my thought was to start in the mid-afternoon and carry it on sometime into the night, with everyone welcome to come and go as they please.
I just got to looking on the internets and found another cigar lounge in Temecula, the Old World Cigar Lounge. I'll need to check this place out too and see if it might not be an option, possibly a better one.
To answer your question, I got carded at the door, but I am able to just say I'm going to go eat at the buffet. Might have to bring a Groucho Marx mustache to get by everything.
And Olde World Cigar Lounge got shut down due to the owner forgetting to pay rent and his taxes. One of the guys I'm bringing used to work there.
Are new folks welcome? I googled so cal herf and ended up here... I have been smoking sticks for a number of years but never attended an official Herf (just smoking with friends ect). Regards...

Well, kind of. I was thinking Sept. sounds good, so a Saturday in September that is going to work well for everyone. Glad you brought it up though, because I want to open this up for feedback and opinions on when we should have it. Did you have a date in mind Leonard?
Any thoughts guys? I'm good with whenever, whatever works for the most people ought to be the ticket.

Joe if you walk outside and look East that green glow is my jealous/envious aurora because I can't go ......damn .......
Gene, if we were able to organize that, I'd drive cross country and pick up as many people as my truck could carry...and I'd be there with bells on. It's hard enough to organize something local and get everyone on-board, can you imagine something nationwide?
I think the 5th might be out being as it is Labor Day weekend and a lot of people will be going out of town and such and also having company., so it may make for an inconvenient herf date.
