And one more question for the group, and I will let this topic go forever if you want.
Spanking might work on a toddler. Spanking might work on some sort of preteen or tween kid. Granted. That toddler or that preteen, once they hit puberty, is going to be your size. Do you think spanking will be effective at that point? If that's the only tool in your toolbox, you're going to be very ill-equipped to deal with the problems of a teenager, say a 17-year-old. You won't be able to spank that 17-year-old. But if that's the only way you know how to punish a kid, how the f are you going to deal with it?
100% agreement here.
My step mother beat me for the same reasons you got it, but also because i was there. As a young kid, i was pushed down the stairs. Often had a hand print on my face or was black and blue from the small of my back to my thighs. Was told to eat something and said it makes me sick, i cant eat that. Well i was forced to eat it and while running to the bathroom to throw up i puked on the carpet. Got beat and my face rubbed in it.
My Aunt threatened to take me away, but as she apologized to me as an adult, it was a different day. People did not tell others how to raise their kid. For most of my life I blamed her and not my father. Well, while he didnt do the abusing, he knew it was happening and did little if anything to stop it. Thats why i ran away and spent much of my teens staying with friends, then enlisted in the ARMY at 17. Guess I never had the courage to walk away from them as Frank did. I should have as while she never attempted to lay a hand on my wife, she has been verbally abusive and nasty to her.
But, i grew up, we have moved on. Now i talk to family on the phone now and then as father and step mother are old and frail. Kind of have forgiven, but will never forget. Taught me how not to raise children. My Son never got more than a swat on the but with a bare hand when a toddler and step daughter who i got at age 8 never received more than a stern voice from me. Both have become productive good adults. At the moment high earners with their profession, so i guess i/we did something right. That excuse of being an abuser because thats how i was raised is BS. It showed me exactly what not to do. Frank was spot on

And at one point he was a doe-eyed 10 year old. Maybe playing baseball for some little league hoping one day to be a major league ball player. I haven’t met a child yet who wanted to grow up a drug addict. Maybe we should try to, at least look at the reasons where it all went wrong. No child wants to grow up to shoot up a school, do drugs, abuse women and children. They want to be princesses, ball players, actors, singers ETC.... again..... something somewhere went wrong.
While I agree, however one turns out is the individuals doing. A poor kid can do great in school, study hard and get a scholarship to college and do well. An abused kid can say that was not right and move on in life and not hurt others. The abused alter boy can become an abuser or say that was wrong and life life the right way.
It is all about personal responsibility. We all have choices as we grow up, we are responsible for that choice

Agreed.
I grew up dirt poor. I supported my brothers and sisters, by working before school and after school.
I have a 4" scar in my back, where my mother parked a carving or butcher knife in it.
She was a drunk. A mean drunk and when she went off, she was dangerous.
I chose to not let how I grew up determine who I was.
I now have no mortgage, I make over $150k a year and am lucky enough to have a boss lady that manages everything.
I don't drink. I don't do drugs.
I chose to make my life better. I chose to not let my childhood or the problems associated with it, dictate my path.
To be honest, I feel that those who do are weak and use it as an excuse.

Of course I agree with that part because I'm living proof, but it's harder to do than it is for kids with money. Proof: more fücked up adults come from fùcked up childhoods. Proof: kids who grow up getting hit often hit when then they have kids. It's what they know. Class movent in America is POSSIBLE, but not PROBABLE. You had better invent something, be a good singer, or be able to dunk a ball.
Working hard in school, getting a scholarship, and becoming a doctor? Fuhgettaboutit. Won't really happen. You and I and Tony all broke cycles, but that's the minority report. Doesn't happen much in real life.
Read freakonomics sometime. First book, not second. Entertaining and thought provoking. Number one correlating factor to having a successful kid? It'll surprise you, and won't surprise you at the same time.

I know of 5 young men who have broken their cycle.
Each of them were from bad homes and were part of the system.
Because they were part of the system, they were able to train with me and eventually get jobs as an apprentice diesel tech.
Each one of them trained under me and are now journeymen diesel techs making $100K a year.
I also know that I have a foster daughter who is doing well in the hotel industry and a foster son who is now a chef. Both of them had really rough lives before they came to us. I am more proud of their successes, than I am of mine own.

How are they going to determine who has been vaccinated?
Papers please?
Will everyone have to "present papers" when ever they go out?
Or will we get tattoos with our vaccination number on them?
Don't get me wrong. I'm all for a vaccine. Provided it does the job without making a mess of things. But this is seeming to become a mandatory thing.

They lifted the mask mandate here in NC today. They still recommend - especially for those who are not vaccinated, but do not require. I believe they also lifted restrictions for gatherings. They did leave mask restrictions in certain, limited situations however - including schools.

All too real.
Case in point. Last week I was watching some show, not closely, since I don't remember what it was, anyhow, one of the people opining was a trans-woman. As in she had been a man, and transitioned.
Now, during the course of the conversation she referred to her situation thusly: "Male was the gender they assigned me at birth..."
How freaking stupid is that? What do these people think, that a tiny gender-neutral baby comes out and the doctor reaches into a bin of parts and attaches them like a Mr. Potato Head?
No, I'm fairly sure they looked at the genitalia, PRESENT AT BIRTH, and said "It's a boy/girl..." there's NO other choices other than some form of hermaphrodism. Nothing was "assigned". What you do with it when you grow up is your business, please stop acting like something inappropriate was done to you.
Sometimes I just have to wonder if being a moron is just the baseline human condition.
