We got a notice at work that employees are "encouraged" to report other employees and call OR OSHA if proper procedures are not followed.
Some of this is sounding vaguely familiar. 1940s Germany maybe?
I don't like it, even want to protest it, BUT, my sister in law works in a nursing home in Pennsylvania. Her section of 12 people, lost 5 this last 10 days and she is home with the virus herself. I do not know the answer, but what we are doing is not working.

Here we begin to see the true nature of the Democrats agenda. 30 years ago I'd have thought it would be the Republicans who brought about the realization of the dystopian imaginings of George Orwell, Ray Bradbury, and Aldous Huxley. Turns out, it's all of them. I believe we are nearing the end of the Great American Experiment in freedom.

One can take precautions. Officialdom can issue warnings. But, I believe it is a pure conceit to think that this can be "regulated".
We might as well try to control the snowflakes in the Antarctic, or the movements of the sand in a Saharan storm. This will NOT be.
The virus will run its course. It will take those who are weaker, for whatever reason. Either we will develop a vaccine, or enough survivors will develop immunity. That is the way it is.

I can't remember what network it was but they where hyping the mask mandate and encouraged people to confront others who weren't wearing a mask. Bright idea.
Expect beat downs to occur and shootings to increase if that is the was they expect a mandate to be enforced.
The Govt. has no way of enforcing a mandate IMO. i want what they are smoking.

Hospital capacity is too low compared to population for herd immunity to be effective. That only leaves a vaccine that most people on both sides are hesitant on taking because it was rushed.
There’s a meme I saw yesterday that says let the politicians take the vaccine first. If they don’t die the vaccine is safe, if they do die then the country is safe.
Going to be really interesting to see what the future looks like after this. Culture historically operates on pendulum, and we're at one crazy end of it. Especially after trauma, which almost acts as a crucible to current culture, there has historically been a violent eruption in the other direction. After the bubonic plague there was the Renaissance followed by the Scientific Revolution, followed by the Enlightment.
After the spanish flu in the US, we had the abundance of the 20s followed by the real Great Depression, followed by the WWII period, followed by the "American Dream" of the 50s.
What's interesting is that the abundance of information and thought had consistently shortened these periods of change since the Middle Ages, but now we have gotten so great at obtaining information but have gotten worse at analyzing which information is useful, I don't know what the next cultural change will look like or how long it will last.
I hope everyone that is waiting for herd immunity, is willing to sacrifice a family member or two. I'd rather at least do a little and wear a mask, even if it isn't fool proof, and not because it's mandated. No one seemed to have any problem accepting money from the government, however taking advice and acting responsibly seems to be government over-reach or socialism.

Not waiting. Wearing the mask, washing hands etc., avoiding unnecessary risk of exposure.
But,
the answer will still be immunity. Hopefully achieved by vaccine. Already have had family members with it, all did fine, myself included. Also know some fine people, some of my church members, who died with it. No blinders on, just willing to face reality. Fantasy solutions will not bring about the end of this crisis.

When you have people using 1-2-3-4 as their password online still, it's not hard to figure out why we are at this juncture with the pandemic.
Most of the time I go to the store there are many still not wearing a mask and it's not just young people it is all ages. Simply amazing.
I avoid people like the plague at the store when I have to go. Of course hoarding is back in full force as well. I finally found clorox wipes the other day. It was first time since March i have seen them.

I had a conversation with a friend of mine yesterday, someone with whom I have worked thousands of shifts in ICU. As we were speaking, she said some things that made me think about the conversation we've had here, and the ways that some may have taken my comments.
Please understand me, I do not take this virus lightly. I speak as one who has been at bedside for more deaths than I care to recall. I have held the hands of family members while their loved ones passed, worked unceasingly for hours and hours without a break to try and save someone near death, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. I have reshaped the head of a dead teenager who refused to wear a seatbelt because it "interfered with his freedom", and cleaned and bandaged him before his mother came in to see her now dead son. The list goes on and on.
These experiences give me a matter-of-fact perspective on life and death situations, a perspective which may seem cold or callous or frivolous to the majority of people who've never been through these kinds of situations. My thoughts are not meant that way, believe me, I feel it.
So, with that background in mind, I'd like to reiterate some things that I've said before that may have been lost in the emotional maelstrom of political thinking that has engulfed this pandemic. Wear the mask, lest you end up like that un-seat belted teenager. Use the hand sanitizer, often. Keep your distance. I think that all of these measures are completely do-able, even while keeping the economy open.
Some of the things my friend told me;
"Be thankful you retired before this thing hit, it's horrible."
"They're unpredictable, ones you'd think will make it die, some you think are gone come back." We usually had a pretty good estimate of the odds when we received a patient, whether post cardiac arrest, DKA, ARDS, whatever.
"It's a horrible, horrible death. Very painful to watch."
I wanted to say this, because I fear that some of you have thought that I had a "La-te-da" attitude about this thing. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
We should take all reasonable precautions, without destroying the world economy in the process, and while remembering that we are social creatures. We cannot prevent every calamity.
Stay safe.

I doubt they would be on the market at that number. I could stop having sex. That is considered a perk.
