There are givers and there are takers. Some of them are poor and some rich, doesn't seem to be a matter of economic status. I am just grateful that my mom taught me to "neither a lender nor a borrower be".

“Neither a borrower nor a lender be, for loan oft loses both itself and friend, and borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.”

    ― William Shakespeare, Hamlet

Yes, I've always loved that quote and that has been one of my guiding principles in life. It has served me well. I am a giver - but I do not lend. Lending leads to resentments and other unpleasantness. So if I give, I have to give without the expectation of anything in return.
It's funny that pirates were always going around searching for treasure, and they never realized that the real treasure was the fond memories they were creating. - Jack Handey

Exactly. That's the way, giving with no expectation of return favors. Makes life much more peaceful and pleasant.

You get a call from a toll free number.
The first thing you hear is "this call is being recorded for quality and blah blah blah".
The first thing they hear is "it is being recorded by me, also".
They say "that they do not allow their calls to be recorded."
I say I don't give a flying f what you allow. As long as I inform you that I am recording it is legal.
They usually have some kind of fit at this point.
It has cut way down on a lot of BS calls.

I also hate calls from toll free numbers. So I don't answer. Cuts way down on a lot of BS calls. 100% actually.

It's supposed to be paid to the state of the purchaser. Whether it does or not, I don't know.

I try not to hate, but damn - I HATE people who prey on the elderly. There's only one group of predators I hate more than them, I'm sure you can guess who.

I hate that so many home health aids think it's fine to just help themselves to elderly (or disabled) client's possessions. What's going on in their head, "they won't miss it and they'll be dead soon anyhow." What an ugly, nasty mindset. It's happening right now to someone I love and the person is too wrapped up in their own kindness to do anything about it. It's so frustrating. I know so many people who have watched as their parents were robbed blind by their home health aid/CNA.

Now I'm certain that most HHAs are good people who do not steal. I'm focusing on the ones who have that predatory mindset. Who think of these people who rely on them as easy marks. Yes, I hate these people. I hate their mindset.
Amazingly, it isn't only health care that are like that.
There are churches that prey on elderly people and convince them to turn over all their property and assets or leave everything to them when they die.

They tried when my mother was dying. They tried the BS that it would "save" her. They didn't know about me and my 5 brothers and sisters.
They were so pissed when I took over everything and my lawyer helped me have power of attorney put in my name.
They came to me telling me my mother promised them all these things.
    Sorry, not gonna happen.

They told me that I might go to hell for this.
Yep. Probably. Been there, they don't really want me back.

My state has what they call "use tax", the buyer is supposed to pay sales tax on out of state purchases on their income tax return. I don't know what happens if one goes to a different state, pays that state's sales tax and brings it home. It is a stupid system of taxation. If a retailer sells out of state they don't charge the sales tax for their state.... So, as it now stands retailers have to know what the rate is for the state they're shipping to, keep track of that and remit to that state. I have no problem paying taxes if the money is used for public good, unfortunately the bureaucracy is wasteful and doesn't police the use of revenue effectively.

I agree. The term govt and wasteful is synonymous. I see it everyday.

I don't answer also.  If I don't know the number and they don't leave a message, I block the number.  One did leave a message, it was in Chinese!

I hate sitting at the dealership for 1 1/2 hours, so they can come back and tell me they can't find the problem on this POS Toyota.
Cannot duplicate or it's operating as designed.

So the radio is designed to turn off going down the road or mid conversation?
The GPS is designed to not work?
The rear door is designed to stop midway down and then stop functioning?

I have no problem duplicating it and the moment my wife gets in it, everything goes to hell and I have to listen about it. I mean non-stop, have to listen to it.
I even went as far as to show them pictures of the hatch not wanting to close or remain partially open.
    I hate Toyota.

Bought a go-pro. Gonna set it up to record the dash and all.
Toyota's attitude is, if they can't get it to do it with in 1 hour, It isn't a problem.

Just wait until it goes out of warranty... they'll be glad to spend hours on it then.

    Too true.
Fortunately, I have a 7 year bumper to bumper warranty on it.
I work on vehicles for a living. The last thing I want to do is work on my own stuff.

My SS is gonna need some work soon and I'm trying to figure out how to come up with $500 for a cowl hood, $850 for the paint, $500 for engine parts and another grand for "other" necessities. LOL!

Nice cold drink in my YETI.
    Snacks in arms reach.

A long thin drill bit can help with plugged cigars. 6" × 3/32 works for me.

Just got off the phone with my bank. Seems someone tried to use my debit card in Colorado and we are in N.J. These scam artists should have their fingers cut off so they can't type. Then they'll just use their stubs.
$9000 worth of fraud on a Sam's Club MC. A year of going back and forth to court. Synchrony Bank refused to remove the fraudulent charges. In and out of court for a year, they refused to battle it out because they knew I owned them. Record every conversation, print out every email. Finally they dismissed all charges to my card, including real charges. They did it by mail but did not remove the credit report hit.
SYNCHRONY BANK is the worst "entity" I have ever dealt with.
Keep records and check your balance frequently and get a new card issued.

I used to get this once or twice a year. I stopped paying for gas at the pump and only pay inside now. Haven’t had my card/numbers stole since, 3 years now. Card skimmers are a big problem here.

Which is why I only use prepaid VISA cards online.
And we buy Amazon cards and load them on the site.
Although, I do use one of my credit cards at some cigar sites.
But it only has a $500 limit. They tried to raise the limit a bunch of times, but I keep telling them to leave it alone. $500 gets me in enough trouble.

Whenever possible I use Apple Pay (or Samsung if you have that). Then the hacker can't skim your card info. They would have to actually hack into Apple, in which case I cancel the card and figure something else out.

I wonder what a comparative study would show between the dollar amount stolen in this manner compared with gun-point robbery?

Just in case any insane people are reading this, let me say that I'm not advocating gun point robbery.   Or shooting anyone.

But maybe our illustrious legislators could start to look at a way to combat this type of electronic theft?

Hmm, talking to legislators, better be clear;      I don't want you to tax it.
Just prosecute the crime and force restitution from the scammers to the victims.
