Finest Will Rogers quote ever. Thanks for that one.
“It has been a source of great pain to me to have met with so many among [my] opponents who had not the liberality to distinguish between political and social opposition; who transferred at once to the person, the hatred they bore to his political opinions.” —Thomas Jefferson (1808)

Wow, this is third-grade stuff, at the latest....

"Suppose, a litre of cola costs US$3.15. If you buy one third of a litre of cola, how much would you pay?

The above may seem like a rather basic question. Something that you would perhaps expect the vast majority of adults to be able to answer? Particularly if they are allowed to use a calculator.

Unfortunately, the reality is that a large number of adults across the world struggle with even such basic financial tasks (the correct answer is US$1.05, by the way).

It is because they are not teaching basics in school anymore.
Basic math, history, science and English are now extinct.
Instead they are teaching modified opinions. Indoctrinating kinds into misguided beliefs.

And our school systems don't understand why there is a wave of homeschooling sweeping across the nation.

    Just my opinion.

I've always seen that quote attributed to Winston Churchill. I prefer Oscar for his sardines.

I meant to add that the preferable state is to have both a head and a heart....

good discussion of the origins here:

The really sad part is you can't homeschool "college", where some real damage is being done.
Depends, every class I have taken has said on the first day — no talk on religion or politics

:D  not even the English department allows it, or at least the ones I’ve had. Plus I go at night. Working adults versus the kids going during the day.

I'm a practical guy.  I've seen 2 liters.  I've seen liters.  I've even seen some off-brands in 3 liters.  I've never seen a third of a liter for sale. So I'm going to go with the idea that you have to pay $3.15 and waste 2/3 of it.

Well, mistake number one is, isn't the word spelled liter?
    but...

How do you measure a third of a liter anyways? "Please, sir, would you give me .333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333~E liters?"

Finally, if simple arithmetic was within the ambit of the average voter, who would vote socialist?

Next week marks the 6th anniversary of the week which began with our attorney general declaring that a constitutional guarantee of due process does not imply any guarantee of judicial process, and which ended with his president arrogating to himself by executive order the right to declare martial law during peace time.

Yet we teach our children that it's his jackass successor who is a fascist dictator.

Where do we go from here?

    @silvermouse

"The vehicle was traveling northbound ... when a female walking outside of the crosswalk crossed the road from west to east when she was struck by the Uber vehicle," police said in a statement.

Here is the problem. We want to blame the vehicle for this, but it's like in Oregon where they passed a crosswalk law and now all the pedestrians just walk right out without looking and expect vehicles to just stop.
Big trucks don't stop real quick and the laws of physics trump state laws.

Sorry, I laughed when I read that.

And can someone please explain to me why schools are condoning these walk outs? Some even encouraging it?

Fakebook is blowing up about the Uber vehicle hitting that person. Not one of them even understands that the person wasn't in a crosswalk and was crossing traffic unsafely.
It's a shame that it happened, but as I said, people have grown complacent in paying attention and following the rules of the road.

When I was younger, it was pounded into your head to look both ways before you enter the road to cross it. Roads were for cars and trucks.
Now, bicycles and pedestrians feel they have the right to just go out in front of a vehicle and the vehicle MUST stop.
Unfortunately, as some are finding out, it doesn't always happen.

This is why autonomous cars would never work in Memphis.  Crosswalks are for sissies there.  You cross halfway, stop on the double yellow and finish once it clears the other way.
